NC water ingress another possibility

I siliconed the windscreen grommets in my 2007 NC a couple of years ago and have regularly cleaned out the hood drain tubes and door drain holes. As a result she has been totally dry inside for the 8 years that I’ve owned her.

That is until last week’s biblical downpours during which water gathered on the driver’s side scuff plate which then ran into the diver’s footwell.

I took the door card off and took out the large Bose speaker (which was soaked but did dry out OK) and saw that the door drain holes were as I thought, clear, but that water had been coming in and draining out onto the scuff plate via the clips on the inner door seal.

Much staring, pondering and tea drinking later, I discovered that the little bit of trim on the leading edge of the seal that runs between the door skin and side window was loose and that there was a rectangular hole underneath it where, I presume, a clip to hold it down was supposed to be.

I siliconed the trim back on and when set, attacked the area with a pressure washer. It’s also rained since then but so far so good.

Hope this helps someone

Darryl

You mean like this? I know it’s three years later, but I have had the exact same issue with the daily.

If I hadn’t read your post I’d have been on the run around for weeks! Thank you!

Yes, those are the culprits.
As an aside, I sold my MX5 just over two years ago (had too many cars) and have regretted it ever since.
I’ve retained my personal MX5 plates and am currently looking for another NC

This is my second. First was a 1.8, now got a 2.0. Have to say, even with the odd bit of upkeep needed (as already exemplified) it was worth spending a little more for a better history.

Recommend reading top buying tips etc before searching. I saw some right pups at the cheap end of the scale before landing this one.

Thanks.
I got to know the ins and outs of NCs during my 9 years of ownership (mainly thanks to this forum)
Just in the process of convincing my Chief Advisor that we need a third car again!

Fixing this is a real fiddle
