- My model of MX-5 is: NC
- I’m based near: Loughborough
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: welding.
Drivers side rear wheel arch, has gone and needs welding. the sill seems ok it’s literally the back bit that I guess in the inner wheel arch? I’ve seen replacements shaped correctly for this for a mark 1 and a diffferent one for a mk2 . Do any of them fit the nc or does it have to be diy and if so what thickness steel should I be looking at.
Links below are examples for mk1 and mk2 but cannot find one for the mk3.

Something like this? There’s an OEM and IL Motorsport one on there.

Glad these exist now as a few years back when I looked I couldn’t find any.
Cheers

Thanks.
No it’s the inside not the actual outside it’s the front of the rear inner wheel arch behind the lining.
I’ve had a very helpful answer from the wonderful guys at mx5city saying no there isn’t a piece for this but it is not complicated to make out of sheet steel.
Thanks for your response though

Good news on it being a simple item to fabricate. And great customer service there too.
I keep meaning to get the wheels off and pull back the lining to check mine at some point. Would be interesting to hear how you get on

What lies behind the Mazda carpet of doom?
Dare you poke that brown scab with the screwdriver?
I did not dare… the damn mot tester had a field day
I’ll have to look into having a batch made maybe, i’ve got the templates, just never had the time to take it that bit further.

Haha I’m not usually a daring person but I don’t want to see the Mazda rot before my very eyes!
It had been inspected an undersealed a couple of years ago so hopefully that has held up. That said, what with all the salt on ours roads during the winter, it’s anyone’s guess!!

What thickness did you use?
Bob, hehe
nah after the advice above, I got some sheet steel and make some up and just wing it.
This is what it looks like
similar to mine but the opposite side, I think it could be an MOT fail, what size plate did you go with, did you MIG Weld it. Its a pain as I have spent virtually every weekend getting rid of the surface rust in all the usual places and found it as one of the last areas I was doing
Not done it yet. Got some 1.5m plate trying to decide if I’m brave or stupid enough to try it myself.
