NC1 6 speed box, gear lever bushing replacement. Brass or nylon?

Evening all. My 2007 mk3 2lt sport has a bit of play in the gear lever these days. So the question is do I go for the brass bushing replacement or go with factory nylon one, if I can still get nylon! Can any fellow members let me know if they have had a similar dilemma. Many thanks in advance.

Maybe this is your problem…

I’ve read (no experience of) the brass bush can make the change worse.
There’s a post on that part (above link) being fitted by members, it improves the gear change. Unfortunately you will have to wait for stock arriving.

Thanks MickAP. Yes that does make sense. Shame they are not in stock yet. Anyway not enough play to stop me driving. I have to pop over to MX5 Parts tomorrow for a few more bits so will get an update on possible stock arrival. Cheers.

I have them in stock if needed, you can read the facts about them here:

Yes please, Can you advise how I can purchase please ?

Thanks

I done the brass collar recently, it helps a little bit but I just think that the nc1 6 spd isn’t that refined.

Mine is a bit notchy when cold but once it warms up it is fine. There is some movement with the nylon bush when in neutral, I.E you can rock the shifter back and forth. Using the brass washer did not solve that issue as there is still some play in neutral but it seems to be quite a bit less, maybe 50% but it still moves a bit.

It’s very easy to fit as well.
“JIS” or Phillips (X head) screw driver.
Long 10mm socket or 10mm spanner.
Little snips to cut a plastic ring that holds the rubber boot to the main shifter body
Cable tie or similar to replace the plastic ring you just cut. (when reinstalling it all)
Trim/panel removal tool (plastic wedge/lever)

That’s about it really. Takes about 30 minutes. Hardest part is removing the plug for the electric windows as its under the center console but the cable for it means you have limited space to get under the center console.
