NC1 coolant fan problem?

Hi guys, could do with a bit of input please. I had a recon engine put in my 2007 2.0l NC ( after a particularly nasty episode with an oil scavenger ring failure) a few weeks ago. Ive been running it in and have been keeping my eye on the temp guage.

The needle sits at about a quarter of the way up the scale under normal driving conditions and rises to about a third of the way up or slightly more ( but less than halfway) in slow traffic or stationary.

So here are my questions…I dont recall there being that much fluctuation previously, so is this normal? I think that previously it ran pretty much all the time at 1/4 of the way up (but cant be sure)…

And secondly, if I leave it ticking over on the drive for 20 mins it never seems to indicate over 3rd or so up the scale even though the fan doesnt run.

Im wondering if the fan is now not functioning and causing this larger than previous temp swing?

Perhaps you can put my mind at rest…or not?

The temperature gauge should show roughly half way, if yours is only 1/4 - 1/3 rd I suspect the thermostat’s stuck open. My electric fan’s only cut in once during 18 months of ownership which was on a hot summer day whist traffic crawling. Fit a new thermostat.

Thanks for that info, Ill check the thermostat out today if I get a chance. Im just surprised at how efficient the cooling system seems to be. My daughter’s fiesta’s fan is on and off every couple of mins in traffic.
Ill relax a bit now then.
