Hi eveyone, could anybody tell me apart from the forged crank…if mazda re designed the piston rings in the nc2. I know they can fail when the car hasnt been serviced regularly, however is there a revised design for the nc2. People think the crank was fogred with lighter pistons to rectify the issue but i believe that is only for the car to rev higher. Id like to hear what people have to say with some evidence to back it up, thanks. PFA
Personally, the only people to answer your question is to ask someone who has “expert” knowledge and an engine rebuilder/tuner and confident that Roddinsons Motor Sport will know the answers.
If you email Mazda, they will also answer your questions from their Technical Department.
Any idea on whete to email the technical department, i think everyone has different opinions on the matter but nobody really knows, you do tend to see its mostly the nc1s with rod knock but who knows why
Did you read this below, particularly the part lower down re the NC2 engine…
Thanks for that mick good bit of info, it states revised pistons but i believe this is reffering to them weighing less so the car can rev higher. I could be wrong though
Either the online form or the email.
I used the online form and requested they please forward to the technical department.
Thanks for that, i doubt they will admit their is a flaw in their design though
Of course not!
You will be very lucky if they tell you anything more than is already published.
But worth a go.
I thought I had read that the piston mod was to floating gudgeon pins in place of the heat fitted ones on the NC1
I saw something like that, i dont know if thats gping to benefit compression rings though tbh
With the available piston ring sets listed as fitting 2006 to 2015 it seem that nothing changed size wise.
So the only change I could see would be extra / different drain holes in the groove behind the oil control rings.
Good spot. Who knows whether that helps the longevity of the compression rings
