If you ever doubted whether your NC rusts as much as the previous models see below. So if you have in particular an earlier NC give it a check over for rust.
Very interesting. Hadn’t stumbled across that channel before but I’ve subscribed now. I wonder how long it will be before we see ND’s up on those ramps in a similar state
Been watching this channel for a while now.
Interesting and informative stuff they have on theređź‘Ť
To be fair early ones are 16yrs old now so its to be expected
That company seem to be doing good fab work just not very impressed to see the first NCs side skirt lying paint side down on the lift and with welding and grinding being done next to it as well.
It’s not how I’d lay the side skirt down either, the car however is having a full respray afterwards they said.
I can half forgive them then still not something i would do .
Its because of their videos that I took a closer look at our PRHT and then let our local MX5 guru, Oliver Wild, do the repair work!
The car in that vid above is a particularly BAD example…looks like it’s been dragged out of the sea somewhere.
I’m not knocking the guys superb ability to re-fab that arm but he mentions they’re 98 quid apiece…surely the amount of work he’s putting into doing the pair is gonna run to 200 quid I reckon.
Even with him mentioning the rotten captivated nut bit too.
Personally, I think that car was fit only for the scrap man after selling off any other bits. Did you see the area where that arm bolts onto ?
Shot to bits…
Yep, the economics of these repairs must be marginal in many cases, I think there is a lot of owner emotion and sentimentality behind much of this. My theory is that MX-5s simply create so much joy and make so many memories that many owners become very attached to their particular car. In the pet world, the equivalent would be taking your dog or cat to that Noel supervet chap to work wonders, albeit for huge amounts of money that no insurance company or normal vet would sign off on. A guy at work took his cat there with an inoperable brain tumour, the supervet fixed it and it cost literally thousands and thousands of pounds. To which my colleague then added “But we got another four years with our cat.”
That white one has clearly been “Cheat Chassis Blacked” to hide the galloping rot & rid it at some point.
Which of course creates a rot haven for it all to rot away unseen until…
NEVER ever buy without photographic evidence & invoices or at least the materials or from the so called experts.
Agree mate, was pretty scary under there, be gutted to discover that amount of rot
the white one - repair = a few interesting comments e.g. about the bolts being impossible to undo and the costs of the rear braces. They’re certainly not as expensive as he stated.
He may be a good fabricator and have interesting videos BUT, personally, I wouldn’t take our car there!
Which is why Mk1s shot up in value. Back in the day, a lot were scrapped because they were worthless.
2007, my cousin took his Mk1 to the Gaydon national. Smart looking car.
A week later a van stoved it. All very fixable, but the conversation was short at the time to strip and break it, because it wasn’t worth much
In context, in 2008, I had a M2-1002, one of the hand built MX5s. Couldn’t even get £1700 for it through the communities (its now in an Italian collection).
