ND 1.5 to 2.0 Brake Upgrade

Hello All, I’m currently looking to upgrade the front brakes on my ND 1.5ltr to the 2.0lt, swapping out the calipers, pads and discs etc.

Has anybody done this? Are the 2.0ltr discs bigger?  Is it a straight forward swap over? Would there be any complications doing the work on the drive at home. Would there be any noticeable difference ie improvement in the braking function.

Rodders will shortly be along I know

Thanks in advance

It appears that the caliper and caliper carrier bracket are sold as a pair. The 1500 and 2000 have different brackets I would assume as the pads are further out on the 2000. The disc is a larger diameter on the 2000. You cannot buy the brackets it appears separate from the disc.

That is my reading of the parts diagram but others may be able to help further. It appears the after market pads are the same for both cars. The rear discs are the same for both cars.

The calipers kit from Mazda is circa £250 a side.

Thanks Drumtochy for you reply:

So my understanding now is that a complete set of carriers, calipers, pads and discs sourced from a 2.0ltr vehicle will bolt straight onto the 1.5ltr.

Hi Y,

Have a look at this advert   https://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_postst114993_Mk4-2-0-sport-parts.aspx    looks to be just what you are looking for.

PS Check with those that know that the 1.5 wheels will fit over the bigger discs.

Hello YOYO1

It might be worth checking Roddisons  Motorsport Sheffield S9 1US 0114 244 5300 ask for Paul.

MAX5 MK4 2 litre are fitted with bigger front brakes for racing, it is possible that Roddisons

may have some redundant standard MK4 2 litre brakes for sale.

Keith

Hahaha. Yes. Rodders is where I’ve ordered a set from…

Can anybody please confirm the larger disc and calliper set found on the 2.0ltr models  will work with the standard 16inch rims found on the 1.5 model.

Thanks guys.
