ND 2 TPMS faults

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ND 2 1.5
  2. I’m based near: __
  3. I’m looking for technical help on TPMS possible faults.

Our 2019 ND 2 with the later system with metal valve stems, is now flashing when setting off first and then stays on continuously. I understand this indicates a fault in the system rather than tyre pressures low - although I have checked them.

Am I right in thinking there is no battery to replace inside the tyre/unit?

Is there any common faults that may cause this?

The car is covered under Mazda’s used car warranty, but nearest dealer is 25+ miles away and I’m not sure it’s covered anyway, or diagnostic charges.

Thanks for any suggestions.

One/or more of the units are not connecting with the system best bet would be go to a local Tyre garage that has a TPMS testing unit ( most Have them Now ) that can read if the tyres/wheels are putting out a signal they can let you know which one is not sending then you can get a replacment from MX5 parts it will need to reinstalled by a tyre fitter after fitting switch the ignition on for a minute then off then take it for a quick run within 15 mins run time the light should clear as there is no other way to reset the system on the 2019 model I spent 2 month’s trying to sort mine out I then found that a UK seller had sold me a type only for the USA market so best bet get the replacement from MX5 PARTS this is the item you require and you need a 433MHZ type to connect to the system they can stop transmitting at any time over 5 years even if they say they can last 7-9 years …my tyre guy did my check for free but it could cost you around £30-40 they just put the testing unit next to the wheel it should give out a wifi reading if not then its the sender unit …

Might be worth buying a cheap scan tool (Thinkdiag Mini is c. £25.00 on ebay) which will allow you to reset the TPMS light and/or see the live data for each sensor to determine which one may be at fault.
I find that a scan tool is invaluable if you run a ‘modern’ car and intend to do even basic diy diagnostics.

My vision of a nightmare. Invariably I’ve found that = bang goes the pristine, unmarked alloys in a 5 minute period. I avoid those ‘professionals’ if I can. It’s bad enough when the tyres themselves have to be changed (inevitably, granted), but to have other issue which involves the tyres having to come off. Phew. Sweating,

My mate runs his own tyre set up/they do do other things but there bread and butter are tyres they had my tyres on and off 4 times with my new Konig wheels and not a mark on them …plus I got mates rates for all there work …

Funnily enough I found on at a dealership who’s uber careful (knows what I like). I do pay him £20 a tyre extra though in his back pocket!

So I took MX5IOW advice and bought a ‘Thinkdiag Mini’, clever piece of kit, lots of information on all areas of the car.
Anyway it has identified a faulty wheel sensor on ‘wheel #2’ anyone know which corner that is? TIA, Jeff.

The numbers don’t relate to a position on the car. Does your thinkdiag mini display tyre pressures? If it does, you have to set all the tyre pressures differently, note which tyre has what pressure and work out the position of each wheel unit from that.

I think that’s the right front.
Google says; work clockwise from left front (No. 1)
