ND 69 plate DRLs not working

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __2.0 ND 69 Plate, 35k miles
  2. I’m based near: __Cirencester
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __DRLs

My led headlight unit warning light came on dash, but headlights and other lights too all working, except the DRLs. Any ideas why they would go? And any idea where I could some from?!

Many thanks

By default the DRLs are off when the headlights are on. Additionally they go off when you put the handbrake on which makes them hard to check. From memory the DRLs only come on over a certain speed so during the day find a shop front/window you can drive up to to see if they are off or not still.

More information about their functionality can be found here:

sorry this won’t help but you could go down this route …

you can buy an override kit from MX5things full description on the link below its a plug in and play kit for around £48+ click on the blue DRL Harness to tack you to the link…

I have been running the kit for 3+ years with no problems …

I can’t recall how the lamp warnings work on the ND now, but have you checked the rear lights and especially the number plate lamps?

As others have said, if you not aware, the DRLs only illuminate when the vehicle begins moving with the headlamps off, and they will extinguish when the handbrake is applied

Hi there, thanks for response. Yeah checked all lights. Difficult to test DRLs, cars are all a bit dirty at the mo in the front of me! But garage chap was adamant it was DRLs and he knew about them only working with headlights off and when moving…and i trust him! Just cant seem to find them anywhere!

Thanks for reply. Aye, I mentioned all that to him and knew when they should and shouldn’t work, but was adamant it was DRLs…just can’t seem to find them!

Breakers yard your best bet, one with rear impact damage. Found them on eBay too, e.g. Mazda Mx-5 Nd Mk4 Fog Day Time Running Light Left Side Na1p-51070 LED Passenger for sale online | eBay although could be same price from a Mazda dealer. You need to establish which side you need, and if it’s the lamp that’s faulty or the wiring/fuses
