I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ bbr mid pipe catted
So I’ve got the itch for a bit more noise and believe it frees up a pony or 2 as well which is a bonus.
2 questions though for the bbr mid pipe
Does it pass an mot no problem at all?
Was there a design Revision? I’ve seen used ones come up with the car before the flexi. But in the website, the latest photo shows the flexi first and then the cat. Any reason why?
My 2016 car has a full Super 190 conversion. It has a full system including manifold and has passed with the previous owner , who fitted it during covid lockdown all emission MOT’s at Mazda main dealers every year since . The last MOT was at an MOT place used by the car dealer we bought it from and it needed a new lambda sensor but then passed.
I cant answer the changes but the flexy I think seems before the cat.
Cheers, how many miles has yours done? New lambda sensors for the ND2 are like £380 @The_Fonze says!
Do we get any discounts from BBR? I thought they might offer something at the Bicester event they were at during the weekend but doesn’t seem to be the case.
It does seem that BBR revised the mid pipe design or at least the location of the flexi at some point. I’m not sure why this would be maybe worth giving them a call. Main issue you will find is getting the BBR mid pipe flange to accommodate with the OEM manifold flange. If your keeping the OEM manifold/cat then it should still pass an MOT no problem with the BBR mid section with a sports cat in place.
They reckon it mates up to the oem manifold and back box so shouldnbe a DIY job on the drive? Mine’s an ulter rear box but joins fine to the oem mid pipe
I’ve also noticed that on the OEM mid pipe the lambda is before the 2nd cat, but on the BBR it’s after the second cat. Won’t that mean it reads incorrectly with a stock catted manifold?
Yeah it can be a challenge to get the mid pipe to manifold to seal correctly particularly with the gaskets provided, from my experience BBR exhaust are not as good as they should be.
However options are very limited. Personally if it’s just a touch more sound your after you could get an exhaust shop to modify the silencer in the OEM mid pipe or open up the existing backbox.
Just been crawling under mine and the flexi is after the cat. Mine was bought in 2020 lock down time. I have been chasing a tizz sound and found the spot welds holding the cross brace under the gearbox ( sussing out the gearbox oil change) have come apart. So far, I have pop riveted 5 that have come apart and seems I need another 2 to do this week. Not good on a 20 k mile car tbh.
Having just ordered something from BBR and however a small item, the postage side of things seems pretty slow. I chased after a week as the tracking number wont work and they said, ‘Oh forgot to send it, its posted now, should see it Saturday or Monday’ Lets hope its here on Tuesday , so will be a birthday treat !!
