'ND BRAKE' warning display

I was driving home tonight in my 2021 ND, passing slowly between cars parked both sides of the road, when there was a warning beep bee beep and ‘BRAKE!’ came up on the display (the LH instrument of the 3 in the panel was fully occupied by that message). It came and went, and that was that. Anyone know why it did that?

I would guess it’s the first stage of the forward collision warning system - the next thing (second stage) is slamming the brakes on for you, irrespective of if you want to brake. Our CX5 does it if I approach the garage door too fast. Very disconcerting the first time it happens.

Thanks. I did wonder that, but can’t think why it would want to brake as there was nothing in front of me. Maybe it thought the parked cars either side of the road were possible targets?

It sometimes does it on my CX-5 if you pass someone turning off to the left, by moving out around them to the right, if you don’t leave enough room for it it bleeps and flashes up brake.

Have a read of the online manual, you need to be aware of how these systems work.

The lane keeping also wrestles with you if you don’t indicate when changing lane, so actually it teaches you to indicate more, obviously BMWs don’t have it lol😂

Rear cross traffic alert beeps if you reverse and someone crosses behind.

Thanks, that;s good to know. Lane keeping in the MX 5 seems to be just a Brrr! sound and appropriate display, It’s a bit of a pain when ‘pressing on’ as one frequently ‘straight lines’ through bends and it’s doing its nut! But it doesn’t try to ‘correct’ the steering so I can live with it.

Press the button and turn it off.
