Nd bricked after changing bcm

Hi guys,

My 2016 1.5 nd is completely bricked after changing the bcm. I had an issue with the indicator not working which I was told by an auto electrician could be the bcm so I purchased a used one for a car from the same year with the same spec. This turned out not to be the issue (it was a corroded ground which a member of the forum pointed me towards).

The indicator is fixed after addressing the corrosion on the ground and I have fitted the original bcm back in the car. Unfortunately, temporarily having the incorrect bcm in the car has completely bricked it. It won’t turn on and none of the electrics work other than the windows and door locks. All the lights of the dash are illuminated.

I’m guessing it’s some kind of coding related issue as all the hardware should be fine. If anyone has an idea as to how I can fix this issue, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Will

Which is bcm?

I presume you did a typo and it should say ‘what is a BCM?’

I replaced by BCM without issue, no coding required, only difference is that mine was new. Did you check the part numbers on the old a new units? And have you tried with the old unit back in the car?

When you say “All the lights of the dash are illuminated.” it reminds me of when I killed my battery enough that it categorically wouldn’t start the car but not enough to stop the car turning of and showing every warning light imaginable!

Might sound simple but if possible take the battery out, put it on a tender and retry a few hours later (I left mine charging overnight out of the car, when my dash had impersonated a Christmas tree).

You haven’t got these connectors mixed up that I referenced in my previous post regarding the ground point have you?

Yeah the old unit is back in the car now and it’s doing the same thing it was with the replacement one was in there. The battery has been on a tender recently so I don’t think that’s the problem. The dash is lit up like a Christmas tree.

I’ll have to double check but I don’t think the connectors are the same so they couldn’t be mixed up. Definitely worth a look though.

It’s the big 16 pin connector on the BCM and a 16 pin connector on the harness, these can get mixed up, not the connectors on the BCM.

The connector highlighted by the red dot on the photo below is the 16x2 pin connector on the BCM.

The connector highlighted by the red dot on the diagram below is a 16x2 pin wiring harness connector.

These plugs are interchangeable, not something I learned from experience but I know a man who did. Check the wire colours and make sure that you have the right plug in the BCM and the harness. I’m guessing that you would have disconnected both to remove the BCM.
