- My model of MX-5 is: _ND _
- I’m based near: __London
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Seat position
Or, in fact, swivelled a bit as I am looking to the left!
I think the only height adjustment you have on the ND is as you bring the seat further forward the seat height increases. Not by very much though. .
Has the seat been taken out at some point and not put back straight. Could this explain the swivel . I don’t know it that’s possible, just a thought.
Could you just raise the back by putting some spacers under the rails? may need longer bolts, I think the front would need the tabs lengthening if you want to raise it.
Being a whopping 5’1 I’ve discovered that having the seat forward and lowering the steering wheel down to a decent level fits me perfectly… Its a shame the seat wasn’t more adjustable like on the NC…
I have a short back so use a wheelchair cushion to raise me sufficiently. My cushion is black so matches the seat leather and isn’t that obvious.
I went to a mobility shop and they were happy to let me try different thicknesses until I found the one that suited me best - they said they didn’t get many customers with MX-5.
I found it works for me and wondered if it might suit you?
There are many mobility aid “swivel cushions” advertised (Google search etc), but price and quality are major independent variables, so caveat emptor.
However, there is bound to be one that will both boost you enough, point you in the right direction, and allow ease of entry and exit now that when raised you’re too close to the steering wheel.
My chiropractor recommended I got a wedge cushion to put on my office chair to help my posture (I haven’t got one yet!), but just thought, it might be another possible solution to raising the seating position in the car.
Hi
I have had two N.D and I am quite short and found them to low for me,driving vision wise,so it is very easy to get longer bolts from Halfords or similar and pack washers in between seat rails, did not need to adjust front at all,the vision is loads better,a very simple job, undoing the bolts is quite hard as they are bonded in,so you need a nice long extension handle to get the leverage.
All best Simon
This was done in The Abarth 124 Spider and it does relate to the ND.
Thanks everyone for all your helpful suggestions.
I think I’m going to have a go at longer bolts and spacers at the back as that is where I meed a little more height. I am 5’ 10" but I find my back is tucked a bit too low at the rear of the seat cushion.
I have looked hard and I still reckon my seat is slightly canted towards the left. The car has only 10,000 miles and the seats have never been out. I am going to see if the runners are engaging in the same notch ie. whether the right hand runner is perhaps, one notch ahead.
I’ll let you know.
looks good, is it possible to increase the front height of the passenger seat?
