ND Clutch Pedal creaking noise

Hi,

I have a 2016 Mazda MX-5 ND and recently, I’ve noticed that it’s started making a creaking noise whenever I press down on the clutch pedal. The noise is identical to what can be heard in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkPkdJavRLw. Has anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, is there a solution to it?

 

Just some more background info:

• My impression is that the noise comes from within the cabin (i.e. from the footwell).

• I check with my local Mazda dealer if my car is affected by this TSB but it is not: https://www.miata.net/garage/tsb/grinding-noise-from-clutch-pedal-when-depressing.pdf (it seems the TSB applies to North America; I’m not sure if there ever was a European equivalent).

I have had this on a couple of cars in the past (not MX5s). It was simply one of the hooked ends (or both) of the clutch pedal return spring moving in the hole in the pedal arm as the clutch is depressed. A blob of grease solved it in these cases.

Thanks! Some adhesive oil to the spring in question seems to have done the trick
