ND door handle replacement

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ND
  2. I’m based near: _St Albans._
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __

Does anyone know the correct procedure to remove and replace the passenger door handle (remote button type)

It occurred to me that i might need to do the job myself one day after the handle on my wife’s 2024 Mazda2 was replaced under warranty at a main dealership. This was the result…….

It would be good to know any “tricks” to getting the thing off without destroying it as the “Mazda trained technician” clearly doesn’t know any!

Can’t name the dealership yet as it’s ongoing.

Have a look here DOOR KEY CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION | 2016 ND Shop Manual it looks like what you need to know, but if not have a look round the rest of the ‘manual’.

Thanks mate, i hope i never need to do it.

To be honest, i’m totally shocked at how anyone, much less a Mazda tech’ can show that level of incompetence!

P.S. They actually thought i was going to be ok with that result!

Shocking - tells you all you need to know really, doesn’t it?!

Yes it really does!

I can only assume that it was done by the Saturday boy.

Any idea why the “Mazda tech” didn’t know that?

As I work at a main dealer, not Mazda our techs accidentally damage things occasionally as no one is perfect but will own up,can’t believe rage dealers are arguing ?

Initially they tried to fob us off with “It’s just a little scratch on the trim piece of the handle but we have ordered a new one, oh and there is a little bit that needs some touch up paint” It was a blatant attempt at a cover up but they quickly changed their tune when i went ballistic and started shouting.

It looks to me as if someone went at it with a screwdriver.

I sent detailed pictures of the damage to the after sales service manager, and so far he is “doing the right thing”

I got an email about an hour ago with a date for repair work. They are picking up the car and providing a courtesy car. I have already told them that as the paintwork is in an “as new” condition, ( the car has done less than 4000 miles) we will not accept anything less than a perfect result…..Fingers crossed. :crossed_fingers:

That is horrendous.
How can anyone on planet Earth think that is acceptable, and think they could palm off a car like that. A total zero pride in one’s work, or a total lack of talent at the ‘career’ chosen.

Nightmare mate. Hope it works out for you. Not often I can say I can’t find the words, but this is one of them.

Trying to fob me off was a mistake. I am Mr angry at the best of times, this just sent me into orbit!

There has been a suggestion, although completely unproven as yet, that the dealership may have lost the Mazda franchise. If that is the case, there may be some bad feeling among the techs’ who have decided to take it out on customer cars. Total supposition of course because i have no evidence for it other than, we bought the car (plus a service plan) from the local to us branch of the same dealership, and about a month after, they were no longer Mazda dealers. They absolutely knew it was coming but failed to tell us, obviously it would have influenced our decision to buy from them. However it is what it is and we have to make the best of it. fingers crossed it works out OK. :crossed_fingers:

You’ve every reason to meltdown with them. Don’t bear thinking about what I would have been like in the same position. It’s also a pity that in many aspects of life, you’ve got to be like that to make people actually listen.
I doubt someone would intentionally take it out on a customer car, i mean, it’s not like they can bill head office for self incompetence. It looks like the age old case of someone don’t give a total jack about a) your car b) their job c) probably anything that don’t affect them d) having no talent e) scarily, might have got into sloppy work habits as a massive proportion of people aren’t into their cars anyway, so while wouldn’t be happy, would maybe just shrug their shoulders- if they noticed.

I once had a car broken in to by levering the lock with a screwdriver. They did less damage than that.

yeah who knows what the motivations were. Perhaps the bloke got a blank from his wife/girlfriend the night before. In any case it’s total bodgery and you’re right, it’s a shame that it takes a meltdown to get satisfaction!

Probably not that, I mean, I’d have wrecked 10000 door handles in my life if that were the case.

Yes i had that experience with one of my vans.

Actually, laughing is probably the best way to deal with it but…..i find it really hard to laugh at things like that!

I agree. Jokes aside it is an awful situation to find yourself it, from no fault of your own. Fingers crossed it all gets remedied to your satisfaction. JUst one howler of a situation. Totally avoidable too if only someone knew what they were doing and had 0.1% pride in their work.
