ND Hardtop (not RF)

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ND2
  2. I’m based near: __Hampshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ND hardtops

I currently have a 1.5 ND2 RF. I’m planning to swap it for a 2.0 ND2 because I’m finding myself doing more and more track days and would like a little more to play with on track, along with the LSD. I’d rather get a soft top MX-5 and then add a fibre glass roof, since this will work out marginally cheaper, it will give me more options with a roll bar, and it should be lighter than the RF. Unfortunately I can’t find anywhere that does ND hardtops other than in the US or Japan. Does anyone know of anywhere, please?

BTW, I still reckon the 1.5 is the better road car!

Definitely :grinning:

And no on the hard top, never seen one in the flesh.

You could keep an eye on this one:

Fiat do one for their version of the 5 but they are very expensive.

‘BTW, I still reckon the 1.5 is the better road car!’ My view, along with many others, is the complete opposite to yours but each to their own as always.

Honestly, you’ve got no chance, companies in the US have spent years developing some all with varying degrees of success but ultimately none of them offer a perfect seal and are prone to wind noise and letting water in. Cybul EU have developed a roll bar for the ST (i’m waiting to see their interior trim covers before maybe fitting one next year in my turbo ND), other than that my only other option is Blackbird Fabworx in California but shipping and import make it a very expensive purchase and given its size I can’t see it making it unscathed.

@Jonathan_W, that does look good, as do the yellow wheels!
@GarethC, the Cybul EU roll bar looks good, but it’s a shame it doesn’t have a harness bar

SPS Motorsport in Germany do roll bars for the ND. They’re considerably more expensive, but include a harness bar and also fit the RF. I don’t know if that means they’re lower. They also have an ND in their workshop with a hardtop - I’m trying to find out where it came from

Cheers, I wasn’t aware SPS did one, i’m not bothered about the harness bar as i’m only using the car on the road. I want the bar to be as discreet as possible, that’s why I like the Blackbird one as it doesn’t interfere with the rear view view and with the trim covers almost looks like a factory fit option.

The ND they have in their workshop with a hard top has a Fiat 124 hard top with 2 brackets added.
