ND idiosyncrasies (wind deflecting and a hidden gem)

The wind deflector on the ND doesn’t fold? I’ve just replaced my 18 year old (55 plate) 1.8 NC (my only car, which I’ve had for 7 happy years and 50k miles) with a 2019 1.5 SE + The wind deflector on the ND doesn’t seem to fold. So, what do I do, what do others do, remove it and stow it in boot with the tyre repair bag? It kind of gets in the way permanently up, both in terms of rear visibility and when lowering the roof from the driver’s seat. Could I replace it with a standard NC wind deflector? Are the simple fixings of the same dimensions does anyone know? If so, anyone got one for sale? I liked the folding wind deflector, simple and for me and my dimensions, effective. Is there another hack? Also, has everyone found the secret power outlet deep in the passenger footwell? How interesting, and useful (in the base model at least, with only one other USB outlet); but why is it there?

(smug face), my ND RF has a clear wind deflector and I don’t need to reach back for the roof - just press a button. Yeah the power socket is in a very inaccessible and almost invisible location.

Can’t help with the wind deflector alternative but the NC one is not a straight swap. The 12 volt power socket is there for the tyre inflator.

Here in an alternative. Not sure if Paul still does them

I’m not sure about the folding of the wind deflector but please be aware the roof is not designed to be lowered from inside the car. Lots of info on here of people doing it and causing significant damage to the hoops and worse the roof. It should be lowered from outside and putting a firm hand on the back of the roof to enable it to clear the hoops without catching. Enjoy the car! I had a 1.5 nd and loved it!

Ah, it all makes sense

Yes, know about the power outlet in the footwell. I’ve got a twin USB port plugged into it, one feeds the dashcam via a cable routed behind trim up the passenger A-pillar and behind the screen trim; the other powers my phone and - unlike the visible USBs on the dash - has enough power to recharge it properly…happy days😊

He does. I just ordered mine late on Sunday, delivered Wednesday.
Doddle to fit and a nice bit of kit, also got the wedges which I probably didn’t need but fitted as ‘just in case’ mod :+1:

the roof is not designed to be lowered from inside the car.

Sorry @Craigjackson1984 but while I was told so too, when I complained to Mazda about the hoops rubbing on the roof, that to me sounds like Mazda’s lie/poor excuse for an imperfect build. It’d take very little to redesign the hoop covers.

I chose to ignore so, to hell with the hoops covers
