About exchange my NC (Copper red 1.8 Option Pack) for a new ND (Ceramic 1.5 SE-L). I know that the ND does not provide the usual scissor jack.
Over the years I have had my NC serviced and repaired by those who can in dealer garages. However (usually prior to MOT) over the years I have jacked the car up (with scissor jack provided) and removed wheels for cleaning, inspected springs, hoses, Ā unions etcā¦
I am not confident enough to jack from points other than the scissor jack points and never climb under the car.
I would like to continue this practice with my ND, but during a dealership showroom inspection I only saw plastic trim where I would expect to see marks for jack point positions.
Ā
Forgive my long winded explanation but what I want to ask of from ND owners is Ā ā Ā
" Are there any clearly marked jacking points on the ND for a scissor jack ? "
The storage bracket for the scissor jackĀ is there on the Mk4. You could keep the jack and wheel brace from your current car and use them on the new one.
I had one from my 7 which is adequate for a quick lift onĀ the āsillāĀ jacking points but I put a slit piece of heater hose over the sill to stop damage to the paint. Well sad I know!!!
The point to put the U of the scissor jack is obvious when you get under there.
Have fun in the new motor, they are a very good bit of kit for the money, I love mine.Ā
As per Niborās advice I had a look at Page 474 of the online ND owners manual, but itĀ seems to illustrate the same reinforced sill jack point positions and jack position marking as my NC. Will have to have another, but closer, inspection when I do eventually get the ND (Tuesday 29/3/16).
I think it only fair that I pass on the NC jack for the new owner so thanks Mad Malc for the advice on where I can buy a suitable jack (with āUā location slot) for my ND.Ā
I do have a trolley jack that I gingerly place under re-inforced chassis members, in the hope it would save the car should the scissor jack fail or topple. This is only a safeguard even though Iām never sure of underside damage should the scissor jack fail. Also a bit reluctant to use it on the sill since without a location slot I would fear āflatteningā the reinforced sill with the trolley jack.
Interesting to hear that there is a storage bracket for the jack in the ND.

Not sure what Drumtochty means in the reference to āmy Mk 4 underseal how toā . Probably stupid of me, but maybe advice as a search phrase on theĀ site?
Hāmm - if there is a jack mounting point in the boot, and the sill is still the same place as a Mk3, then ask the dealer āWhereās my jack?ā which is what Iād do. I canāt see Mazda sticking a mounting point on the car and not providing a jack for it, unless they had second thoughts?
The only tools supplied with my ND was a pouch containing 2 towing eyes and a bar also the emergency gunk kit for a flat tyre (All mentioned in the Ownerās Reference Guide) - no jack. Ā I think this was standard kit throughout the ND range, correct me if Iām wrong.
I think the logic for that seeming omission was - no spare wheel supplied with car = no roadside wheel change possible = no jack required!
I got my dealer to supply a jack at point of purchase. You will also need the T-screw to lock the jack in place and the winding handle (my dealer forgot these two items). I requested the jack to enable me to rotate the wheels as recommended in the handbook.
Thanks Drumtochty. Heading up to the Highlands with a few friends in May and would like to be able to remove a wheel if I had to and also for use at home.
