ND Lumbar Support

I’m aware that Mad Malc has done something similar but here’s my take on the issue.

I’ve found the ND seats to be very lacking in comfort and in particular lumbar support. On a long run they are nowhere near as comfortable as my previous NAs and NC. Anything over an hour and it’s very uncomfortable.

I had bought a couple of inflatable lumbar supports but not got around to fitting them until today. To my mind it’s a game changer. My wife loves them too.

These are the ones that I’ve used.

I’ve had to extend the tubing by around 15" and I’ve done this with a length of screen washer tubing and adhesive lined shrink tubing. A better option would be a longer length of rubber tubing but I used what was to hand.

Apart from that all that I used is a couple of pieces of 5mm plywood, 375mm x 150mm and a bit of gaffer tape.

Opening the two zips on the back of the seats allows access to fit the plywood against the back frame of the seats. Gaffer tape on both sides holds it in place. The lumbar supports then go between the ply and the seat font. The back plates of mine had double sided tape to attach them. Run the tube out from the bottom of the outside zip and around to the side of the seat. Another piece of gaffer tape holds the tube to the bottom of the seat trim and positions the inflation bulb just in front of the seat back adjustment lever.

The bulb is easy to reach down the side of the seat and can easily be adjusted even on the move.

Almost impossible to get any meaningful pictures inside the seat but I think you can work it out for yourself. Only been out for a couple of short runs but it’s taken the seats from uncomfortable to comfortable.

That’s interesting. I haven’t fitted mine because my back and the NC seat get along. I just have the standard cuff that we all have wrapped around our arm at the surgery. That looks like a possibly more supportive alternative. I’m surprised you had to extent the pump cable. I assumed it would sit behind the seat and might occasionally need adjusting once initially set up.
Whatever, the seats aren’t great so good these options are aired now and again👍

I could have left the tubing as it was and the bulb behind the seat. But being able to sit in the seat and either pump it up or let a little air out to get it just right is so much easier.

It may lose pressure in a short time too. They are designed for a short time result so your probably right.
