I know the NC oil pressure gauge is not really a pressure gauge but a made-up (by the ECU) display of what it thinks the pressure is. BUT - is this also true of the ND2? Or have Mazda fitted a real gauge to it?
It is still an extrapolated pressure reading.
Where is the ‘oil pressure gauge’ on the ND? Never seen one on either of ours.

There is no gauge of course but you can access the extrapolated reading via ecu software.
You say ‘There is no gauge of course’ but your original reply appeared to confirm that there was one.
Please can you advise which ecu software shows this data?

Not really, I was just replying that it’s still an extrapolated reading.
I use Ecuteks ECU Connect to connect via Bluetooth to my mobile device.
Ah, OK no gauge. I presume therefore there’s an oil pressure light which is probably of more use than an extrapolated reading on a false gauge.
Yes you have a warning light.
Thanks for the info.
So how can it be an extrapolated reading when there is actually no gauge on the ND to show it?

There is an ‘Engine Oil Warning Light’ as described here Mazda MX-5 Owner’s Manual

Why can’t it be an extrapolated reading with no gauge?
extrapolated I have got a job to pronounce it let alone no what it means ![]()
Because your post has nothing to do with answering the original posters question. It is totally erroneous.

Granted there isnt a gauge, but it’s still an extrapolated reading as there is no oil pressure sensor (not to be confused with the oil light)!
I’d have to double check but I’m pretty sure that the ND (and all SKYACTIV engines) do have an oil pressure sensor that actually measures oil, pressure. The ND has a 2 stage or variable displacement oil pump (again I’d need to check to be specific) but actual oil pressure is measured. IIRC, the oil pressure sensor has 3 wires, it’s a sensor not a switch.
According to the manual there is only the oil pressure switch which has to be removed to check the oil pressure operation
That confirms that then, thanks. After checking, oil pressure sensors are fitted to SKY engines with variable displacement oil pumps.
OK you win!!!
