ND oil surge on track - is it an issue? And what oil should I run?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: ND2 2.0 RF
  2. I’m based near: Hampshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Do I need to worry about oil surge on track?

I’m now running Meister R club race GT1s and sticky track day tyres (205 width). I now have a lot more grip and all the problems that go with it. Do I need to worry about oil surge on a stock ND2 2.0 engine? I have a vague recollection about reading somewhere it’s built for it, but I can’t find that now. I thought I better check before regretting doing nothing!

I also wonder if I should be running a thicker oil than the standard 0W20? I’m guessing Mazda’s own SkyActive oil is designed to deal with increased carbon floating in the oil (arising from the direct injection), so I’m not sure what’s best.

Hi
You will be absolutely fine on track, we use 5/30 fully synthetic and the engine is strong in the mk4’s

Get yourself on a Mazda on track day (cadwell 14th April) and come and see our mk4 race cars

Thanks @rodders. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make the 14th April, but will try hard for Donington Park in June
