ND power upgrade

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _ND_2.0
  2. I’m based near: Preston, Lancs
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Raising power from 160 bhp

Go here MX5 Racing - Roddisons Motorsport (mx5-racing.co.uk) and get good advice from someone who knows and can deliver.

My recommendation also, if you want good aftersales service .

Thanks for the quick response guys. I was thinking of someting simple, like an ECU upgrade, to get close to the 184 bhp model. Is this feasible using someone closer to me?

You could DIY BBR’s Starchip remap. I don’t think it’ll get you quite as much of a gain as you are hoping for. BBR Mazda SkyActiv StarChip Remap – BBR GTi

I agree with @Mad_Malc though; having a chat to somewhere like Roddisons is good advice.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve messaged Roddisons.

Sounds like Roddisons is your best bet for what you want, mine is BBR Turbo’d but it was a far from straight-forward process and not without issues.

Thanks Gareth.
They’ve come back to me with a cost of £1600, which includes a new stainless manifold and BBR kit. At the moment it’s a bit rich for my taste, even if good value.

Hi, what did the £1600 include? I have a nd1 sport Nav 2.0 and would like to get some more power from it .
Thanks

So is the proposed solution BBR’s Starchip remap plus Roddisons own manifold (or something specifically recommended/sourced by Roddisons) or something else? What’s the expected total power gain?

My car already has the BBR Super 200 kit fitted and a full BBR exhaust, but I’m genuinely interested in different solutions/approaches.

They’ve said it’s a new stainless manifold and re-map.
Might be best if you contact them directly for your needs.

Brian

Ditto for your post Bunty1

Guys
For clarification……
We RODDISONS are not connected to BBR in any way……

We supply and fit our own manifolds made in the UK that we have been using since 2015

We then map the car using our ecu-tek equipment on a rolling road, each car is mapped separately it is not a generic map.

The cost currently is £1600 including the VAT

Another satisfied Roddison ND1 customer. Very useful increase in power , and even more so in torque. More revvable , more flexible , more economical and with the bonus of a nice rasp to the exhaust . Highly recommended.

IMHO just for the noise, and the ecutec race features (auto blipping especially if you track the car) its worth twice that money.

Hi Paul,
Thank you - do you have any idea of what power they tend to make with that ?

I would also be after a set of springs and geo setup if that’s something you do too?

We get the ND1 to around 180bhp depending on the cars mileage & what fuel etc you use….

The other benefits are torque and rev’s once mapped they rev to 7150 rpm
And not forgetting as John said a slight increase in MPG

If anyone is interested please give me a call

Sounds good paul,

Do you recommend fitting a spring set at all ? Would like to get the geo done too and thought it might be a good idea to fit some springs as well?

My ND1 made 177bhp after the upgrade , but it was the increase in torque and a much better torque curve that really scores .

I found the lowered springs transformed the feel of the car , for a slightly more nuggety ride. Paul did the geo on mine and again it further sharpened the feel .

I had the upgrade about 20 k miles ago and it has been faultless . I now really struggle to get below 41-43 mpg .

John, you’re not trying hard enough :wink:

Once the kids have stopped emptying my wallet, I’ll be taking my NC (off-topic: sorry) to Mr Rodders for some tweaks :+1:
