ND - Sequential Indicators

First off, getting the light units out of the car were a bit of challenge.  The culprit was the clip shown in the photo below.  It was suggested coating the slot with vaseline so that in the future, it should come off easier.

Kit of Parts

THE clip . . . :( . Note the liberal use of masking tape to protect the paintwork

The greased slot :)

The wiring fitted and the hyper-flash correcting resistor stuck to the top of the light “bulge” out of the way.  You may notice the extra socket which I soldered to the lead to power the new fender lights (detailed in the other post)

I did this today, thank you for the detailed steps.

To overcome the stubborn clip I fed a ratchet strap behind the unit (a shoe lace would probably do the trick too) which popped it out no problem.

I was a little too eager and managed to catapult the left unit off the car resulting in a chip coming off the point

I have the chip so will get around to gluing it at some point

Yep, I also found an image of a “puller” made of three cable ties made into a triangle and used over the sharp end of the light unit in the same place as your idea. I should have posted it here when I found it on miata.net . . . . sorry!

From miata.net . . . . .

One quick tip on removing the turn signal assembly housings.

The housing will only pop free if it is moved straight toward the rear. Tilting it or pulling at an angle will just fight the mounting points. The screw and nut are easy to remove but there is a side-oriented clip out at the far end of the housing. Some instructions suggest a pry tool at the lateral pointy part of the housing, or to tap the rather thin bolt from the trunk interior. Instead of using a pry tool which can mar the paint, or tapping on a bolt which may bend, I suggest you loop something thin behind the point and use it to pull. Fishing line or small zip ties works.

Erm, the correct way is you push the wiring grommet into the back of the light unit (from inside the boot) then use your thumb inserted through the hole to push the unit straight towards the rear of the car which releases it from the clip.
