I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Hood opening difficulty
Operating the rear latch to open the hood unlatches the hood ready to haul open.
Thing is the hood does not spring up at all, making it more difficult and painful (73yr old) than opening the rear cubby door. Looking at videos etc the hood on the ND can spring up bye a few inches.
Can anyone advise if there is a way to set up my hood to spring up that few inches?
The first thing to try is lubricating all the hinged parts of the hood frame, Some are well hidden so move the hood up and down to locate them all. I have just done ours with a dry spray lubricant.
I do not think there is a spring in the system, it appears to be just the ‘spring’ in the folded roof fabric that forces it up.
If it is like the NC hood there is a spring in the frame along the top edge of the side windows. It is covered by a plastic moulding and can be the source of an annoying rattle on some cars (cured by stuffing some foam rubber in the aperture you can see the spring through). Freeing up the pivots with lubricant is probably the best idea because if you adjust the spring tension to make the roof pop up more than it is much more difficult to push it back down again from within the car
Ops! my opening text “Operating the rear latch to open the hood unlatches the hood ready to haul open” should have read “Operating the rear latch to open the hood unlatches the hood ready to haul CLOSED”
So I meant raising the hood to close, always lower the hood from outside the car to prevent hood rub on the hoops.
Raising the hood (closing) from inside better if caught in a rain shower with the hood down.
If it “pops up” a little after unlatching then I think it would be much easier, quicker and dryer.
Never was a problem with my previous NC.
Could raise lower the hood much easier than the ND.
Mind you much younger and flexible then (me not the car).
Unlike the ND No problem with the NC hood rubbing the hoops when opening the hood, so could be done seated within the NC
