How long have you waited to get your soft top replaced on warranty. I reported mine some 5 weeks ago and phoned the dealer today to see if they could shed some light on when the work could be done. I was told that they had not got a date yet and the hoods were still on back order. The ND is my daily driver and as well as damage to the front of the hood the inner piece come loose every time I put the hood up after having it down, this means I have to fix it back up so I can see out of the back window. I think there is a mod to stop this happening but my dealer says they know nothing about it. I am now getting close to the point to getting rid of the ND and going to another brand.
I’ve got a PRHT and one reason why I didn’t like the new ND with it’s ‘rag top’.
Cheers, I was thinking of going to Mercedes.
Shock/Horror!
An A/C and Competition Coord driving a Merc - - - NEVER!
Why not I still have my NA. And I would like to have a soft top daily driver. If my dealer and Mazda UK cannot work together and get my soft top fixed, I was told by Mazda that there is some clips to stop the inner part of the soft top falling down, BUT my dealer said they know nothing about them.
I might add that apart from the soft top I love my ND to bits but the dealer and Mazda back up on a warranty job is the pits. When you have forked out for a new car you expect to get some sort of service. This Friday it will be over 6 weeks since I mentioned the hood wearing and the inner panel falling out and blocking the view of the interior mirror. Some thing that I think is dangerous.
Mal - point taken, I was just pulling your leg.
Possibly Mazda are still more dedicated to production than to spares, and the possible repair has been mentioned on here several times, just a question of finding it. Robbie for instance may be aware of it?
I don’t have the problem fortunately, but there are seemingly various ST problems with the ND that are showing up on here, not good for such a recent release. You could always do what I did, write to the MD at Mazda UK, but send the letter to their office address, not to his home, as I did (on the Mk2.5 clutch issue) that apparently got me blacklisted for life. It was - now - some years ago, so maybe times have changed, but I’m careful in what I say now, as in those days customer service were monitoring messages on the forum, so who knows - maybe yours are being watched with some concern now?
Having said that, the MD at Mazda Uk did get the ball rolling, so he did his job, and due credit to him and the service manager (then) and Mazda Engineering Japan - who finally solved the problem. The effect and the result affected cars world wide - as I knew at the time. For me, and other owners, it was worth it.
I also raised the question of problems at the last AGM (Any other business) and was assured by Roger that he would give support to anyone with a problem, so why not ask him as well? You are in a prime position to do so I reckon.

I have had mine replace ( Sept '15 ND ) and all looks good so far
Or you can place an order for the RF which is looking at a release in Jan '17
I have seen all the posts. What I was asking was how long did those who had them replaced had to wait. I have emailed Mazda UK and had an email asking to send them the Vin number and the dealers name. What I can not get my head round is why are the extra clips to hold inner bit of the soft top together can not be got by my local dealer. This is a safety issue. All you are left with is a slot the size of a letter box to look through when using the rear view mirror. I will update when I get a reply back from Mazda.
I think you need to talk to another dealer. The roof being on back order is just one of those annoying things with Mazda having to replace so many unexpectedly and it’s not a safety issue.
However, it still took 4 weeks for approval from Mazda to do the hoop fix.
As far as I know there is a service bulletin for the lining coming down and the dealer should sort it out. I’d either be more insistent or go elsewhere.
The safety issue is that you can not see out of the back window.
Sort reminds me of my VW Passat in 2001.
VW had coil packs failing left right and center, they sacked the original factory due to these failing issues, and couldn’t keep up with demand.
Mine was sat at the dealers for 12 weeks waiting for a single coil pack… i kid you not.
Luckily for me, it was a company car, so I had a loan vehicle.
Great news. After talking to MAZDA UK the soft top is being changed next Tuesday.
No worries, mine was 6 weeks lead time, but that was because they wanted the car for 1 week and needed to find a courtesy car available for that length of time. Took it on the Monday 8am got it back 6pm on the Friday!
hi there, mazda are aware of two issues with the ND softtop
1 part numbers to advise your garage to order and replace to keep the inner lining from falling down are
AN247R1280
AN247R1230
these are claimable under mazda warranty for a rectification as above
2 they are also aware of the “front edge” catching on the style bars behind the seats and rubbing the fabric of the softtop
again, there are two spacers that mazda supply under warranty - they move the bar at a slight angle forwards so that the fabric of
the softtop clears it when up and downing the roof
part number is N243 R1 020R 02
the mazda ref number for this issue is R048/16A
please ring your mazda dealer and tell him you want to book in for prior approval on a warranty claim for both of these issues above
hope this helps
Hello Deborah,
Thank you for this information, do you also have reference numbers for the following:
-
Seat belt coming out of shoulder guide.
-
Squealing when window moving when wet.
Thanks
Ian
My garage insist they’ve done the fix they were advised to do. They seem unable to confirm that they used the part numbers advised in this thread. Worryingly they use the word “replacement” when talking about the parts, rather than additional - as these clips are.
It’s booked in for a third attempt to fix in September.
Has anyone had the fix and it then fail after that? Or if you have had the fix, can you see or feel the clips? (I can’t.) Right now, I just don’t believe my garage has done it.
Had my falling down inner hood repaired at Nunns Mazda Grimsby, no problems since.
I had the clips fitted to deal with the droopy headlining problem a few months back. It’s dropped down just once since and it was easy to pop it back in and it’s been fine since.
