Many answers to this eternal question.
For what it’s worth, I put 4 Goodyear asymmetric 6 on from National tyres, they had a discount code (quite regularly) to get rid of 2 Potenza on the front and 2 cheap as chips Chinese tyres on the rear.
Has made the car feel a lot better.
Best advice is to have 1 brand on all 4 tyres and get an alignment check soon after.
This, then pick the best (subjective) set you can afford.
Had Goodyear Eagles on mine. Great but when they got to end of life they deteriorated very rapidly. Replaced With Kumho PS71’s all round and they have been excellent.
16" or 17" wheels? If the former, some of the options suggested are unfortunately not available.
Another plus one for the Kumho PS71 if you are on 17" wheels. Have them on my ND and they are really good and suit the car well.
No longer available so if you do find any they will be old stock.
Now replaced with the PS72 and you can get a set of four fitted for £394.64 on Black Circles.
The latest Ecsta Sport is a very good tyre.
I have a 2017 ND and have a full set of Uniroyal Rainsports on her. Performs adequately, especially in the rain but even driving carefully, can only get 25k miles out of them and at £125 each, that’s a bit much when you drive 18k miles yearly.
Latest MOT report from my independent garage shows my Kumho PS71s as 31% worn after around 10k miles.
I’m quite happy with my Michelin PS5 . I’m on 17” wheels
Whenever anybody asks this question it always gets confusing because there are so many different opinions.
Tyre review sites are not the best place to look because there are a lot of great tyres that while they perform well on a generic family FWD SUV do not suit the lightweight RWD MX-5
I think we can all agree that if you choose a tyre from this list you will not be disappointed and you will get a tyre that suits the car. Something there for everyone’s budget.
Kumho
Michelin
Pirelli
Uniroyal
It might sound boring but on the last 3 cars I’ve had Kumho’s, 2 MX-5’s and 5 door daily driver.
I’ll probably be up for some more Kumho’s soon as the latest MX-5 needs a set.
