- My model of MX-5 is: 2023 ND Homura
- I’m based near: Yorkshire
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Wheel size __
Hi. My car a 2023 Homura which comes with the front Brembo brakes and the 17" BBS wheels as standard.
I find the ride very hard (Oh r mrs!) so was wondering if any of you wise folk know if the OEM standard Mazda 16" wheels will go straight on and clear the Brembo brakes. Thanks
Have you definitely got 2 bar in the cold tyres, dealers seem to over inflate as a matter of course. Try another gauge and or dropping the pressure a little.
Do also remember it is a ‘sports car’ and will be, should be ‘firm’.

OEM 16s won’t fit without spacers to clear the brembos. The brembos are very close to the hub so there are only a few wheels that fit without spacers (all OZ racing will fit)
Hard ride? Standard they’re like a limo!
Hi. Recommended pressure is 29 (in old money) I am running 28 in an attempt to soften ride.
Forget to say that mine also has the Bilstein dampers fitted as standard. Ride is very much on the too “firm” side.
Any idea what size OZ wheels I would need? Regards
yeah even with the Bilsteins I found mine absolute luxury after using my RS Clio. Eibach springs or OEM?
16s will help I’m sure, or even going up to 215 45 17.
As for OZ’s, any 16" with et37 and 7j you should be good. so 4 x100, 16 x 7, et37. I had some briefly on mine
Springs are OEM. Car has only done 4000 miles from new so perhaps shockers and springs will soften with a few more miles? Stock tyres fitted are also XL rated for some reason so stiff side walls.
I wouldn’t bank on the spring’s softening what there like now is what they will stay like
Then they absolutely aren’t the stock tyres.
The stock tyres on the 2L are Bridgestone Potenza S001, which are NOT XL
This is why suspension setup is so subjective - what is firm to someone, is ‘limo like’ to someone else ![]()
Whereabouts are you @FastH? It might be useful to meet up with a few NDs and compare suspension setups along a known route/section of road?
Cheers,
Steve
That is very strange and could well be your issue.
What make are they?
Unless Mazda now fit XL tyres I would be wanting to know the circumstances that resulted in all 4 tyres being replaced at 4000 miles.

My mistake. The tyres you mention are the ones fitted.
I’m East Yorkshire where are you?
No worries ![]()
Cheshire.
It might be worth you comparing setups at the next Yorkshire meeting/run out, with other NDs.
Could you blag a test drive of another 2L at a dealership, after first maybe checking the tyre pressure on their car? As long as it’s post 2021 (so rules out the ‘old’ 2L SEL-NAV/ SEL-NAV+ spec which had a non-Bilstein suspension (and is very comfy)), it’ll have Bilsteins and you can compare.
