ND1 Headlamp Level Reset

Hi everyone, hope everyone is staying safe!

Just lowered my MX5 MK4 and the headlamps are pointing down. I’ve tried to carry out the headlamp reset by bridging the two OBD pins with a paper clip but nothing happened.

I had the ignition turned on and headlamps set to on but feel like I’m missing something. Do you need to bridge it 3 times in 2 seconds? How far should the paper clip go into the OBD port? Scared of opening the pins up. Any advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks guys

Have a look here Manual pages - MX5 Manual | Mazda MX5 (Mk4) 2015+ for the manual adjustment and here Manual pages - MX5 Manual | Mazda MX5 (Mk4) 2015+ for the exact instructions for bridging pins. Note the WARNINGS.

So do you think just manually set the height instead? Because I’ve followed those instructions and nothing is happening

Its just a question of getting the timing right, if it hasn’t happened its because the timing is off.

Funny thing. I had both my ND1 and ND2 lowered with the 30mm Eibach springs by my local independent guy, he didn’t do anything to the headlight settings (I asked him if he had and he said he didn’t need to) and both cars are fine. How do you explain that, it’s really strange isn’t it!

That’s what I thought to begin with. My first drive out the headlights looked fine to me, but then when I drove up to my garage you could see the beam was lower.

I’ll try again tomorrow, I think I was bridging it too quick. Thank you for the help guys!

The nd2 adjust itself after lowering. AFAIK the nd1 needs the reset or aduster links fitting
