Hi All,
Recently bought this ND1 , which has an owners club sticker in the screen. So saves me having to buy one. Came via a car dealer from an owner in Southend way. If anyone recognises it , then let me know.
It has a full BBR manifold with second sports cat and system, found a cold air BBR intake done. Cabin sound delete, which was good for a reason below. Has Eibach spacers, Michelin tyres . Dealer fitted new front pads before we collected, so I fitted new rear pads as still the originals from new. Just clicked 21k miles . So far, I have :
1/ Installed a charger lead for the ctek into the cabin , so I dont need to flip the bonnet and connect up. This then used the grommet hole for the sound pipe , which as said above is deleted.
2/ Reproofed the hood with Renovo products
3/ Replaced rear pads
4/ Repainted the calipers. They were red, as the picture below. Was unsure but decided to keep that theme. Found some 20 year old red caliper paint in the cupboard and weirdly was still good. Actually, not surprised as thats when they made paint before Europe and VOC got involved.
5/ Scuttle was going a little grey, so cleaned and then used GTechnic plastic sealant ceramic on it and looks great.
6/ Started with some Bilt Hamber products on the sills and protection to continue over the next few weeks with wheel arches and sill covers and subframes etc.
7/ Cleaned hood drains and sponges. Minging…
8/ Removed the cabin filter and cleaned leaves. Then made a filter from filter media I had and fitted under the scuttle to stop the junk falling into the cabin filter.
9/ Starting to deal with a few stonechips. Dont think its every had any done apart from a couple. Lots of filling in with paint and top lacquer , wet sanding and polishing.
10/ Wheels are a bit scabby. Took them off and cleaned up as a temporary until we decide on refurbish or swopping out.
11/ Stubby
12/ Dealer supplied overfilled with oil. Neighbour had a siphon oil pump, so we took 3/4 litre out the dipstick hole to get onto the max line. Not clever or difficult to get right.
13/ Getting out and starting to use it. Since we have had the car. The times we have had opportunities to get out, I should have bought a hovercraft. But hope that will change soon enough.
Welcome to the fun world of ND ownership. You have been a busy bee. I got mine just under three weeks ago and all I have done is:
- Stubby.
- Red oil filler cap.
This weekend is #3 clean and reproof the hood
#4 blast round the Yorkshire Dales
Welcome to the club! Recent MX-5 owner myself, all I can say is that the honeymoon period is not a period. Lasts for ever!
Thanks for the replies. I do like to keep myself busy with my cars. Not happy not to tinker. From past cars including TVR’s, a Lotus, BMW Z4 Coupe, a fleet of Westfields, including one build, I have now ventured in my first Japanese car.
I eventually after over 4 weeks had the V5 through the post yesterday, so, I then made that document pointless by transferring a private plate on the car. Removing the stuck on plates shows a ‘holed’ rear panel and front panel. Typical car dealers and self tappers destroying the plastics. Even had a rawlplug pushed in one hole on the front. So, I removed that and all the other raised screwed plastics , used a large drill bit by hand to countersink it flush. The new plates were stuck on and covered the carnage.
Next, I today sprayed the passenger side sill with Bilt Hamber Dynax S-50 to replicate the drivers side I did the other day and promptly pulled the spray tube out and got it all over the door, door shut and me. Hey ho… I think I said.
Time was running out today as had the clean the wifes car , as she drives country lanes to work and looks like she ploughs fields . Buying a black Cupra Formentor for daily duties was probably the wrong call.
Being my sons 21st on Tuesday. We are in the Cupra for the 3 off us to Renegade Brewery tomorrow for a car meet and lunch and beers . Hence the need to clean her car.
We hope to get out on the 5 on Monday , so looking forward to a drive out somewhere, potentially pub involving…
A couple of previous cars I have owned. First one the Westfield with a Honda S2000 engine in it that I built.
The BMW Z4 Coupe , that I sold last year
Also a photo on the 5 in the garage it lives in. We believe its been lowered too but I can see the front springs look non standard as Bilstein blue coloured but the rears just look black.
