ND2 2.0 Cobra back box

Hey, what are people’s opinions on the Cobra back box: https://cobrasport.com/collections/mazda-mx5-exhaust/products/mazda-mx-5-nd-race-rear-box-performance-exhaust

Stock exhaust is way too quiet for me and from what I’ve read, the Cobalt probably isn’t going to be loud enough for me either.

Are there any other alternatives that are louder than the Cobalt, in the same price range, but just the back box (not looking to improve performance per se, just the soundtrack).

I have a cobra on our demo car

I also second this! It’s a lovely sounding exhaust the perfect mix of sporty and it can be quiet when you want it to be. Really changes the overall experience of the car. Good luck!

BBR SuperSport.

How’s the sound?

Hmm…I knew about the BBR SuperSport, but the videos I’d seen before seemed to suggest it wasn’t much louder than the Cobalt. Had a look at some more and maybe it’s similar to the Cobra. Anyone have experience with both the Cobra and BBR and can chime in with which has the best tone? Obviously the BBR is £35 more (although that’s not a deal breaker); if it was about the money, I’d get the Cobalt as it’s £100 odd cheaper!

Depends what manifold and centre pipe you have
I remember when janspeed was the dogs or mike the pipe, exhausts have got so expensive for what they are
Manifolds i can understand
But like dysons charging silly money has made all the other manufacturers think well if they can get so can we ! same has happened with exhaust manufacturers
How they can charge for some of the stuff they turn out beats me
When I was tuning cars back in the 70s 80s we took loads of pipes apart and a good percentage was ■■■■ and prob made the car go slower

I had a Cobalt fitted to my ND2. Even though it sounded lovely I really got the feeling that the car didn’t pull as well at the top end as it did with the OEM exhaust. It is not certain that an exhaust designed to sound nice is necessarily the best for maintaining or increasing power output. It all depends where your priorities lie.

I also had a Cobra exhaust on my old ND2 also, and although it did sound lovely, some nice burble and the odd pop too. I took mine to my local longlife exhausts as I wanted different tailpipes made (for me the 4" pipes looked too much) so I had a pair of 3" pipes made up…

Anyway, while I was there the fabricator told me that hes had lots of cobra exhausts come in that have failed :open_mouth: he said that the externals are made from stainless steel however all the internals of the boxes are mild steel so effectively they rust from the inside out. So thats something to keep in mind

This was the day I fitted it, so shiny! :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a cobra catback on my old Ep3 Civic Type R. It decided to spit all the wadding out and the rear box baffle came loose and rattled like mad!
