ND2 Headlight Manual Adjustment

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2020 ND2
  2. I’m based near: NA
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: headlight adjustment.

The aim of my driver’s side headlight is low. Is there any manual adjustment available on the ND2?

I know there is on the ND1, but the little screw either isn’t on the ND2 or is covered. If it is covered, I don’t know if the thing covering it is removable, I’ve not tried yet.

You’d think this would be discussed/asked somewhere but I can’t find anything on it (forums, YouTube, manuals…)

Advice appreciated, cheers folks.

Does this help

Thanks for that but unfortunately not. The last question on that thread goes unanswered and is the same one I’m asking haha.

Have a look here Manual pages - MX5 Manual | Mazda MX5 (Mk4) 2015+

The white plastic ‘nut’ is the adjuster, you have to use a spanner to turn it. It is a bit fiddley but can be done.

I have adjusted our 30AE and my friend has done his as well.

I’ve seen that too but it doesn’t reflect what I see on my car. The 30AE was 2019 so I wonder if they changed the set up in 2020? Unless I was being thick last night, it was dark and windy…

I’ll have to take some photos and upload them later when I’m home from work.

Tell you what, if I show you mine will you show me yours?!!!

The top 2 pictures are for the near side taken at the same angle. The ‘white plastic’ bit is what you need to turn. It is easier to use a spanner rather than a screwdriver.

The lower picture is the off side. It is not easy to see (sorry) but once you know what you are looking for you will just see it below where the bonnet stay is attached. You will need a longish spanner to get to this one.

Hope this helps.

Is this it except not plastic?

It certainly looks like it could be but I can not tell where you are looking from that close up. There is no way I can take a picture of the ‘end’ on my car without dismantling it.
Why not try it and see if the lights move?

That’s is ladies and gents, case cracked. Thanks for your help.

For the driver’s side, it’s the bolt shown above. On my car it was not plastic or slotted for a screwdriver as you will see referenced elsewhere; my car is late 2020. You will need a 10mm socket, although it was very easy to turn so you could potentially do it with your fingertips. Clockwise from above lowered the headlight aim, anti-clockwise raised it.

The grey-ish connector on the picture above mostly obscures it from vision, I only found it by essentially using my phone camera as an endoscope. In pictures uploaded by others, it looks like it should be where that grey connector is but it also looks like that connector isn’t on other cars, although it is related to the lights because I googled the branding on it.

Luckily I didn’t need to do the passengers side as it looks a bit more tricky to access:

As I say, it was very easy to turn so could easily have been knocked out by a decent pothole.

Hope this helps someone in the future.
