My MX5 ND2 is coming up to 2 years old so needs its second service (only 5000 miles from new).
The quote is £426.16 which seems a lot. (oil, filter and brake fluid change)
Also do you know if they check / clean the hood drains as part of the service ?
I will probably have it done at the main dealers this time and next (in case it needs any warranty work) , then do it myself (which will only cost £100 ish ) in the future.
My ND had its 2nd service last month just before it’s second birthday. The garage, Stoneacre in Doncaster, provided a £700 three year/three service cover when I bought it in May 2023. For my money your quote is way too high.
Unlikely I would think. Quite straightforward to do yourself or if not confident talk to people at your Area meeting, I’m sure there will be someone to assist.
My ND RF had it’s first service at MKG3000 Mazda Dealer in Twickenham. Cost £312. That was for oil & filter change. London/Surrey prices!
I’m expecting next years service to be proportionately more as I will ask for for a diff and gearbox oil change in addition, plus the 2 yearly brake fluid change.
I asked them to check the roof drains when dropping the car off and they said they do that as part of the service anyway. Just ask them to check the drains when booking it in.
They quoted me for a monthly pay plan to cover services, which worked out to be more expensive than paying for it yearly. So I declined.
I’ve phoned around, most quote the same price but Tamworth have quoted £372.00 so will go with that. (its still more than I paid for my old M3 to be serviced!)
I think that unless you’re going to break down the cost of the service into parts, labour, oils etc then a comparison between dealers is not really that representative of why the cost varies.
Are you sure? I only ask as the Darlington branch said they had done mine but had not. Just check that the nipples have some residual dampness from the bleed.
My last service I told the Mazda stealer I needed new rear pads and discs (obvious even to me). They put it as an advisory on the MOT with a quote as they didn’t have time (/ couldn’t be bothered).
Quote was exactly double what my local (trustworthy) garage charged (incl Mazda bits).
The high point - the handbrake worked perfectly compared to the previous 5 years of Mazda care!
Appreciate that people shouldn’t have to do this, but in my experience, in almost any aspect of life- dealers especially- if they kind of get you are a bit ‘different’ and going to be all over it, ‘intense’ maybe, they tend to pay attention. If you just walk into a dealership and act like a typical PCPer; phone in your hand as you’re talking to the wife/husband and smile as you had the keys over and give a thumbs up, not that it’s right, but care might not then be top of the agenda. Same deal anywhere really. Go to a ‘trusty independent’ with the same attitude often give the same results.
Unfortunately in life, when something don’t directly concern then personally, you often have to make a bit of an t1t of yourself, or be a be it ‘awkward’ for people to actually listen and focus on you.
Worth pointing out too, that not all dealers are the same. Yes they all have high labour costs and charge full whack for OEM genuine parts - understandably as their costs/overheads are most likely higher than a small indy.
Some dealers are also enthusiasts too - Oakmere Mazda being one of them. It’s not all about PCP, service plans and commissions (yes they are part of it) but they’re an enthusiast focused setup. Sure can be said for some others.
However due to the high costs, I tend to use them only for basic servicing/MOT (and do the MOT prep checks myself so I don’t have to buy £200 brake pads) so as to keep a FMSH - which seems to be value adding to the resale/PX value of the car.
