Dear all,
Wonder if anybody can help, before my brain explodes deciding!!
I have a Merlot Eunos Mk1 (1996) and recently been buying some things to improve the car even more (if thats possible!)… I have purchased a new centre console, a new black carpet and an in dash entertainment system (pioneer - lovely gubbly)… I’m now looking at the dash and I thought I had decided on the white dials with the blue LED lights… but I’m not sure.
As I say, my car is Merlot colour outside and interior is tan leather with tan door panels and rest of it is black… Has anybody else upgraded their dashboard - could you give me some advice and also is it easy enough to fit the dials etc… (also going to get the chrome needle covers & chrome rings ). With the tan interior, now swaying to maybe cream dials… but ocht… i dont know - so much to chose from,
can anybody help before I go off my head lol
Thanks in advance
Linda
Hi Linda
Vin Rouge is the best colour but I am biased. As for upgrading the dash panel it depends on how handy you are with a screwdriver and how steady your hands are. I installed these instrument rings from eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAZDA-MX5-MX-5-CHROME-DIAL-RINGS-SURROUNDS-SET_W0QQitemZ270398295196QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3ef4fe8c9c They are virtually identical to those sold on MX5 Parts and at a fraction of the cost. Fitting them was fairly straight forward, you first undo the four screws under the stearing column and remove the cowling, it is clipped together also and can reguire at bit of a tug to seperate the two halves. Next remove the two screws from both lower sides of the instrument panel surround and with a steady pull forward on the surround it should pop off it’s clips, try not to flex as you pull, it can crack as is fairly brittle plastic. Next four more screws hold the instrument panel in place, remove these and pull the panel forward until you can reach behind to disconnect the wiring plugs and speedo cable and then lift the panel out. Once the panel is out you have to seperate the two halves of it by pressing in the black clips all the way around the housing and it should come apart, at least it was like that on mine. Fitting the rings themselves involves gluing them in place, it says in the supplied instructions that just clip in place but don’t bother, use some uhu or Bostick all purpose and put a dab in a few spots around the rings. then you feed them through the holes and guide them into place. DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE the fumes from it will fog up the clear front panel, trust me I know. Last leave it until glue is dry and reverse the proceedure to install back in car. As for dial replacements, stick to a good make like Lockwood as I know they fit properly, not fitted them to a 5 yet but the hardest part is getting the needles off the dials without braking them. the needle covers just stick on but don’t press them on too hard or you can jam the needles. Take your time and you should be fine. As for colour, that is down to personal taste I’m affraid but I have always liked the white ones. Very sporty looking.
Have fun
