- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Brake servo problems and how to find the right parts if replacement is needed
Hi all,
My best girl Jiji is a little worse for wear. A few weeks ago i suddenly found that my engine was stalling when braking and changing gear on country lanes, especially on declines. The frequency of this increased until i managed to get her in my local shop. They immediately advised to replace the brake servo unit. I bought a secondhand part from a well-trusted seller who insisted the part worked. All seemed fine for a few days until I took a long drive on faster roads, within an hour I was experiencing the exact same problem.
I have taken it back to the mechanic. He is suggesting buying a full brand new servo to make sure it wasn’t a faulty part. I understand the logic of this but its a lot of money and I want to be sure. I don’t understand how i could be so unlucky to buy a part that breaks the same way within days of install. If i need to bite the bullet and find a new part, i have run into another problem. I have no idea where to start looking. Mazda do not make these anymore and neither do MX-5 Parts. The car part sites that try to match your reg to the part don’t seem to work or just don’t stock a replacement. Any suggestions on what specs I need to be looking for or good trusted sites to find this part?
This is my first car and my first big problem! any help is so so appreciated!
thanks,
Finnuala
