Hi, I’ve just picked up a MK1 from ebay. The bodywork is in exceptional condition and I’m really pleased with it. However, it was sold as a 1.6, but it quickly became obvious it has a 1.8 engine. The loom (in part) appears to have been changed out and the ECU is a BPU2 (3 plug). The fuel pump connections from the back seem to be original, however, I cant find where it fits in to the current loom.
Today I connected the positive thick cable from the the rear to the starter (I think this is the original cable and it is a single termination. There was an existing thick cable that had been cut, but it had 2 thick black cables (one from what should have been the battery, and the it ran to the relay block.
The alternator smoked a bit and the clocks didn’t seem to appreciate it either. I’m not sure whats gone on, or if the newer loom was not compatible with the clocks? Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Apologies if the description of what I’ve done so far is pants.
