Need New Battery?

You could rig a pp9 battery (9v ) to fool it into charging the main battery .

 Both cunning and brilliant, thanks.

The battery on my sister’s Clio dropped below 4.0V last winter. My CTek XS3600 brought it back to life and it has been fine ever since.

yes but yours is a ctek not a copy both ctek and optimate will charge a fully discharged battery!

If the battery has gone flat, for the optimate to recharge the battery properly you need to take the terminals off. It knows if you havn’t and doesn’t do its full fix routine.

I bought a Westco from MX5 parts in December, it has recently gone flat and doesnt seem to want to charge - I have the Lidl charger, which is showing 6v at the moment, guess I will either leave it charging for a couple of days or speak to MX5 parts about a warranty on the battery.

I’ve had a Westco in my car for the last six years with no problems.  On average the car gets driven twice a week but it sometimes sits there for a fortnight without being started.

I know of a car which still has its original Panasonic after 15 years.

Just had a reply regarding the Lidl charger - it is NOT designed to charge a flat battery, the battery has to have at least 7.5v in it to be able to be charged using the ULG 3.8 A1
  charger.

So it is worth investing in the dearer item, and using the Lidl one for trickle charging.

IBit the bullet and bought the Optimate 4 charger on Thursday last week - £53.99 incl’d p&p from Amazon - delievered the next day around lunch time. I have to say it does do exactly what it claims to do - fitted the battery earlier today and it started first turn. Excellent!

I ghot a WestCo battery second hand for 20 quid from the mx5 specialists in Rowlands Gill Near Newcastle…He had loads of batteries in stock and said if it doesn work bring it back.  Even if it lasts a year Im not fussed for 20 quid!
