- My model of MX-5 is: __ 1.6
- I’m based near: __ Milton Keynes
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ coil pack bolts that hold the coil pack to the cam cover.
I seem to have lost the bolts which hold the coil pack to the cam cover and urgently need some. I took them off because I have gotten the cam cover painted. Please advise where I can buy 2 of them. See images.
I believe they are M8 x 20mm bolts. You should be able to get something suitable to replace them just about anywhere that sells fasteners but be aware that Mazda (and other Japanese manufacturers, I think) uses a 12mm hex head on M8 bolts while most generic bolts will be 13mm, so need a different socket.
On second thoughts I’m a bit unsure whether they’re coarse or fine thread pitch M8. I got the size info from miata.net here: MX5 90 1 OF 3 ENGINE.pdf (miata.net)
The picture of the bolt has a part number 99794-08208 (or it might be -0820B) and the “08” after the dash is the diameter M8 while the “20” following it is the length 20mm. But I don’t know what the extra 8 or B at the end means. Most bolts just have 4 digits.
Maybe someone else can confirm.
Odell’s in Stony Stratford high street have a good selection of bolts & nuts sold individually: through the high st front door, down the steps and in marked boxes immediately on the left.
If you can get yourself to Stewartby on Monday I can probably sort you out with a couple of bolts.
