The Traction Control on my 2008 Sport seems very nervous. The light seems to come on with little provocation. I’ve had number of sport / performance cars none of which set the orange light blinking like on this car…
Im assuming it’s not adjustable ? If not is this normal or an indication something is amis ?
Tyres new Vredestien Ultracs. 4 wheel laser alignment done just this afternoon. Tyre pressures equal and spot on.
I scrubbed the tyres in just as I would on a Motorcycle… All tyres and brakes have been done by myself over the last few weeks since I bought the car… The car has been like it from day 1 and nothing I’ve done has altered the situation at all.
I could just turn off but I’m wondering if it’s a 5 characteristic or just this car,
The TC on the NC2 facelift from 2009 was a lot less intrusive.
I remember my start up routine on the NC1 being ‘engine on’ ‘tc off’ - I’d say more a characteristic rather than a fault unless there’s some other indication of an issue.
I’ve noticed mine kicks in way before it needs to as well. I have then switched it off and done the same thing again without any sign of it losing traction.
It will, of course, depend on your driving style, road surface, and as mentioned by you and others, tyres, or the grip between them and the road.
For it to be operating it is detecting either tyre slip and or yaw and pitch movement it does not like.
I believe all 2l cars had LSD’s and 1.8 cars have no ESC so, it is quite possible, especially on the standard suspension that a bit of rock and roll driving style will see the light flash. You will know if you are really triggering it as you will feel the hand of god.
FWIW I note that the traction control on my 2009 2.0 Sport is quite well behaved when running the OE Bridgestone Potenza tyres, but makes its presence known (by frequently flashing up the amber warning light and also by cutting the power back) when running on Hankook I’cept Evo Winter tyres. In my experience it is all to do with the tyres themselves.
