New brake dics and pads

Evening all,

Looking to replace my discs and pads front and rear on my NC, is there a brand I should look out for? Or are they all about the same?. Will be used on the road not track. Car is lowered 30mm and geo set for fast road, not that it probably matters.

Thanks in advance. G

Mx5parts used to do a complete kit which going on what I’ve read were good value and decent quality.
Pagid discs+pads are decent (Euro car parts) I have Pagid pads on my rears.
I fitted Ferodo discs/pads on the fronts, a decent price on eBay around 2 years ago.

Everyone will have their favourites, the Mazda genuine are very good, hard wearing (or used to be) be it an higher price than those mentioned above.

I bought a set of OE equivalent discs and pads from mx5parts and they have been great.

Just FYI, I bought pagid discs and pads for the rear of my suv from Halfords - cheapest supplier of these, then I got my 10% mx5oc discount. Pads and discs for £80!

Pagid at halfords or carparts4less.
They are coated and great specification.
Or Ferrodo which are also coated. (probably others too).
Swings and roundabouts. :+1:

Thanks all, what’s everyone’s thoughts on brembo brakes? obviously well known on the brake screen.
ECP currently got a sale on which makes them the same price as the Pagid’s or would Pagid’s be preferable?

For a road car, any of the known makes (Pagid/Brembo etc etc) from Eurocarparts (or their sister site Carparts4sale, which is sometimes cheaper) will be fine. Most are made by TMD Friction anyway. They all meet the required standards and frankly you’ll never notice any difference in performance on the road.

I have used APEC discs and pads for my last couple of cars, they are the top quality brand supplied my local motor factor (who are part of Alliance Automative with branches nationally).
(Their mid range is Bosch).
A good choice if you see them at the right price.

For road use, almost anything will be fine…
On track, cheap Pagid and cheap Brembo are both pants…

Depends what you want to do… 90% of the time any pads/discs from a reputable supplier will be OK , so buy on price. If you are the 10% who will track and abuse the brakes, cheap FE rated pads are bad news.

Don’t buy from an unknown supplier as fake rubbish is widely sold, and the label doesn’t mean a thing.

The EBC grooved and dimpled ones look very nice and a bit special when fitted. There’s extra discount too if you’re a club member as well as an online discount.

I ran sets of EBC drilled and grooved on my Impreza WRX for about 8 years and 150k miles. A bit noisier but worked v well, no warping and initial bite on braking in the wet was better.

I’ve just installed Mintex discs and pads to the rear. Great value and bargain prices on ebay if you search via the model number, no complaints so far.
