new clutch fitted, now noise sounds like diff on deceleration

yep thats what i find too, would the prop only make a noise when under load , when i put clutch in it dissapears im sure its the clutch ! Sad

Thought I would update you on this.

Talked to exedy and they give me the usual ‘not us’ and long list of links for installation, then told me to go back to autolink ( supplier )

The guys at autolink knew exactly what I was on about - high praise for them again!

Apparently, its the common mistake - not lining up the clutch splines correctly, which would be putting excess load on the input shaft, as well as possibly wearing the splines on both sides.

After mentioning my noises, it was suggested the gearbox may now be knackered, but being a 6 speed, I’m not willing to spend that money on another gearbox.

So I passed it back to the guys at the garage who installed the clutch, and told them about the ‘whine’ I had when I first got it back from them, that went away and then I was left with the ‘clutch thrash’ noise.

Turns out ( according to them ) It was the exhaust, the gasket between the front and mid pipe was replaced, and so far, all seems well, I can still kind of hear it in 4th, but it may be my imagination, nothing nearly like it was.

Weirdly, again might just be my imagination, but the clutch feels light again, and it has less ‘drag’ then it used to ( rolls further when off the throttle )

Whether they read one of the many papers I left on the passenger seat about alignments and corrected it secretly to save face, or have genuinely just got rid of the thrashing noise by doing the exhaust gasket, I’ll never really know.

I’m fitting a whole new exhaust system on the weekend, so I will attempt to get off all heat shields and make sure that it’s all nice and rattle free, I’m still convinced that they messed the original install up though, my second gear from cold no longer crunches, but insted sounds like the input shaft ‘ping’s’ against something…

If this other horrible noise I have in high gear- low speeds isn’t exhaust related, I can only put it down to the gearbox Sad

Feel free to PM me if you want to meet up and compare noises, I seem to be tinkering with the car more than driving it at the moment, And I think I’m getting a pretty good understanding for it nowThumbs up

 hi aran

yep it would be good to compare noises , i had a mate who has a garage fit my clutch again a difficult one when friends are involved to question if it was fitted correctly Sad

it deffo was quiet before the clutch but i all most always drive with the roof down so i did not really notice until the roof was up , i too thought it was the exhaust blowing , but it got louder.

since i have had ppf changed the gear lever makes a popping noise when going in gear again i reckon its not right . im really at the point of part exchanging for something different as selling privately may be difficult with the noise it makes.

im free most evenings and sundays pm me and we can get depressed together !

 just a update

noticed when hot when pulling in to the garage a rattling from under the car when holding the car on the clutch , it does not do this when cold cant tellif its from the engine , middle or back of car  !
