New hood - would welcome any recommendations please

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2001 Mk2
  2. I’m based near: Watford
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: a new hood.

See in Soft Top Hard Top advertisments All Hoods Ltd / Mazda Hood Shop, based in Romford, whilst Jack R Smith in Swansea recommended locally, but a fair drive.

Am considering mohair as opposed to vinyl.
Would appreciate any thoughts on new hoods that have resulted in good value and quality.

Many thanks,

Mutley

I had a Jack Smith hood fitted, I made a day of it in Swansea they fit while you wait

if you aren’t keeping the car long get a Jack Smith hood (cheap and lots of stitching to rot/ secondhand window)
If you are keeping the car get a BAS International hood (mazda spec and properly pressed in window)

One of the things I am after for my '02 NBFL down the road in Rickmansworth, currently have a second hand canvas one which works well but the glued in glass window makes me nervous, so far managed to avoid getting any solvent disolving fabsil on it, and over winter I am switching from black interior and hood to tan. BAS sounds like the way to go thanks for the tip.

All Hoods supplied and fitted our Mk3 hood.
No problems - fitted in a day whilst we explored Romford :grinning:
Happy with the service and the new hood

I recently fitted a BAS mohair hood to my mk1. Very good quality, and if you get it from MX5parts they’ll fit it for free.

Thanks; had a BAS hood fitted yesterday by MX-5 parts in Portsmouth.
Very pleased with quality & service.
Appreciate all the various comments on this thread.

Cheers,

Mut
