New Member - East London

Hi all!

First of all - thanks to the fellow members at Clarkson’s Farm pub couple weeks ago that I immediately parked next to reach critical MX-5 mass

Left a flyer in my car for the club when I got back to it- was considering for a while and on my todo list but it really made my day so had to register as soon as I got home

After many months (years?) of browsing, test driving and considering which car to get I finally took the plunge and got myself my dream spec '22 ND2 RF GT w/ BBS on Soul Red + white seats (not Recaro since I wanted the heated seats).

Doing initial test drive, buying my first car and driving it back all the same day was quite stressful since I barely drove since getting license 10+ years ago! Biggest trips I’ve done were in accidental automatics (SoCal and Scandinavia) and I can to drive the car from Kings Lynn to London..

(NE Wales, Holyhead bay)

Into my mid-30s and having experienced recently too close that life can be cut short in the blink of an eye, and that we not always are able to ‘do it next year’ really pushed me to just get it over with! Took the plunge and got my first (and dream) car.. Even if extremely unpractical and full of headaches like for example, living in car-free housing in London (thanks Boris!) without parking permit which forces me to rent someone’s residential parking quite far for almost 300 a month…

This was back in March and now, almost 4.5k miles later and just after a 1k miles Wales roadtrip last week, couldn’t be happier although having car in London is quite stressful and kind of wasteful but hey, can’t take the £££ with me to the grave

Wales was fun (fellow MX-5 wave/beam flash counter at around ~10), but what I thought would be the highlight - Top Gear famous Black Quarries mountain pass -, was full of 40mph limits/camera signs that I dutifully obeyed which made it a tiny bit boring but then today I found from google reviews there that the cameras were all cut down a couple months ago.. Oh well, wish I saw that earlier!
Still was an amazing drive and saw a couple of nice cars.

Llanberis pass (also Top Gear famous) was really amazing since mostly 60 mph which means I don’t hit the speed limited on car as often haha

Though here I had a ‘too close encounter’ with two sheep crossing the road right after a bend… Sheep in question attached from a screencap on my 360 camera:

Getting ready today to do another sight unseen Europe trip for a week to go see with a friend Sonata in Barcelona and then back on Monday to wrap up my ‘Miata Summer’ - will try to squeeze in some famous Swiss mountain passes and maybe a chilled lap of the Nurburgring (have a lot of laps on the sim, but not in a Miata :)) if not too busy just to tick it off my bucket list  A more serious couple laps only after getting non-OEM brake fluid, maybe pads/rotors and for sure new tires since they are still the same from factory but still ~4mm left

Obligatory mod chat: for mods, all I really considering is maybe a ‘nicer sounding’ exhaust/cat-back since the OEM one feels extremely quiet even comparing with any random german diesel estate on the road… And maybe hood lining delete to hear the intake a bit more.

Looking forward in September to go to some member meetups in NE London or at Black Swan meetup!

Welcome from Hertfordshire. I have exactly the same car in Deep Crystal Blue.
Where in the East End? I was born there many moons ago but would not live there now.
Nearly £300 a month for parking…WOW!

Its around 250 but yeah, still outrageous. It is what it is. Gladly, I can afford but it is literally 3x my insurance if I calculated on per month basis :smiling_face_with_tear:

East London, more or less around Hackney area.

Deep Crystal Blue

Did you buy it recently by any chance? I went all the way to Hitchin back in Feb to have a look at one with very similar spec (21’ ND2 GT) to this but was in Deep Crystal Blue with red seats which looked very unique

My car is a 2021 ND2 RF GT with the white/ivory leather seats and i bought it in 2023.

Welcome from a fellow Londoner, just SE based. I hear you about the struggle that can be owning a car here, but with an MX-5 it’s worth it!

Luckily I don’t need to drive for commuting, just for fun on weekends and the odd supermarket trip.

And the soul red on BBS wheels is just perfection, it would be my choice if I ever get an ND.
