Good evening to all,
Just bought a 2022 ND with sport pack. I’ve had it for just under two months and during that time I have given it a little scamper in the Pyrenees which it seemed to enjoy!
We have lived in France for over 20 years and particularly enjoy The Alps and the Pyrenees. Living in the SW of France the Pyrenees are only a bit more than four hours away so we take advantage of that as often as we can.
That’s a great looking ND Roger. Lucky you getting to play in the Pyrenees with it!
Nice, welcome along.
Welcome that looks gorgeous in the French sunlight. Might be looking at getting my 2.5 over the Pyrenees on my way to and or from Portugal in the not too distant future.
Welcome from Hertfordshire.
I think MX5OC should organise a trip to see Roger. I’m sure he could accommodate 7,000+ of us! Welcome Roger.
Welcome Roger. I think we’d all love a thread from you on your favourite driving routes in the area ![]()
What a lovely part of the world.
Congratulations not just for the car but also living in a beautiful part of the world! My brother lives in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and normally I fly over but nest year I’m driving down in my ND. I never seem to see any when I’m that way. Enjoy!
Thank you all for the welcome.
My go to site for finding interesting roads is BBR Best Biking Roads. As the name suggests it’s a biker site but their aims are very close to anyone who is into interesting and exciting roads.
Because of their proximity we tend to favour the Pyrenees but for about twelve years we had a property in St Gervais near Chamonix so the French Alps were on our doorstep there.
At the end of September I am organising for the fourth time a road trip to do the Route des Grandes Alpes. For anyone not familiar with this route it extends for 700 kms from the south shore of Lake Geneva down to Menton on the Mediterranean, taking in some of the greatest mountain passes including the Col de La Bonnette which at 2700 metres is often quoted as being the highest paved road in Europe.
Welcome. Great photo. What a beauty you have there and what a fantastic place to live to enjoy it. I am not jealous in the least… ![]()
Hi Roger
My wife and I have just returned from our European road trip. We got the overnight ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam then drove to Kassel in Germany. Then down to the Romantic Road which goes through some very pretty towns and ends at Fussen on the border. On to Austria and Northern Italy up to Stelvio Pass and onto Switzerland. Through Davos and Zurich then back up through the Black Forest in Germany and back to Amsterdam. Total mileage in my 2009 NC 1891 covered in two weeks. Quite an intense holiday but worth it with some stunning scenery. Germany is worth the visit…we plan to go back…oh and no speed limits on many Autobahns. ![]()
That sounds like an interesting trip.
The Stelvio is a sort of bucket list pass but I think there are far better ones to do. If you can look at the scenery it’s great but I found it a bit" point and squirt" hairpin after hairpin.
We did four days in the Black Forest last year and really loved that, beautiful scenery, great roads and friendly helpful people.
To me, the best thing about no speed limits on some Autobahns, was not so much being able to drive that much faster, but not having to keep an eye on the speedo all the time.
Yes I agree. I found on the Autobahn the people drive faster and concentrate on what is going on around them. Something that doesn’t happen so much in the UK in the south. You are right about the Stelvio it does tick a box. However as you say it doesn’t flow like many other alpine roads. We got up early in the morning to do it so it was traffic free but instead full of marmots sunbathing!
