New member - MX-5 Mk. 2.5 in Essex

Hi All,

I have just joined the forum. I bought my first MX-5 three months ago. Here she is:

I decided that I needed a fun little weekend car in my life and my daily drive Octavia was proving unreliable so I wanted a backup car. I’m a proper convert now. You can probably see from the decals in the window that one of the previous owners was an owners club member.

Since purchase I have polished the headlights where they were yellowing, applied leather restorer to the seats, and replaced the standard double DIN radio with a single DIN Pioneer with bluetooth and DAB, plus a cubby hole. I thought a touch screen might be tempting for thieves and I wanted to keep everything retro anyway. I swapped the orange reflectors for white/clear at the front and red at the back. I would do a new photo, but it’s a bit dirty at the moment!

When the weather warms up I will re-dye and waterproof the roof and apply restorer to all the rubber seals.

The next step is to get it undersealed, welded and painted up, so I’ll make a new post in the relevant section shortly.

Possible future work would be a roll bar for safety and rigidity, and a LSD. I’m not the most adventurous driver anyway, so I’m not sure if I would particularly notice if I had an LSD fitted! I intend to keep it completely standard aesthetically apart from the roll bar.

Hi Alex welcome to the forum. How did you solve the yellowing of headlights I’ve tried with no joy

By the way I live in maldon essex

Thanks for the welcome Bubble! I’m in Laindon, so not far from you.

I used the T-Cut Heatlight Restoration Kit. It comes with polishing compound and sealant. The sealant is supposed to prevent them yellowing again.

The photo shows the left side light unpolished and the right side light has been polished by hand for about 10 minutes using a microfiber cloth and the T-Cut compound. It’s not perfect, but definitely better. I am going to give it another go with a Dremel or drill attachment when I get one.
I haven’t used the sealant yet as I lost most of it because the bottle lid didn’t come tightly fitted!

Welcome to the forum great to see another 2.5 being saved, your head lights look good must get around to doing mine again :santa_claus: :+1:

What a lovely looking car, must be a Montana is it? Green with envy - please don’t fit a roll bar you will ruin the look, keep it standard.

Welcome AlexC1981 from fellow 2.5 owner now in Staffs but ex-Essex [Romford & Tiptree]

My girl is also my daily driver and I wouldn’t fit a roll bar either unless you plan to do track

What a decent looking 2.5…….clearly loved by a previous Club Member ! [:handshake:  to you who ever you are]

Glad to hear appreciation and you carrying on the good works

Thanks for the warm welcome. This one is an Indiana, so almost identical to a Montana. I agree a roll bar spoils the lines, but I’ve seen some horrifying pictures and videos! I have to admit, if I had seen them before I bought, it may have pushed me towards a Z4. I’ll try to find something not too ugly.
