New member (not new owner :)) / Scotland / 2013 2.0i Sport Graphite

Hi everyone, I’m new to the club :waving_hand:

I was looking at the club for some time, and finally decided to join.

I wanted to buy an MX-5 since 2021, finally, I was able to do it in 2023.

My car is on the photo below, it’s a 2013 2.0i Sport Graphite (manual), I bought it with about ~55k miles and now it’s done almost 70k.

It’s mostly stock, modifications are just minor improvements:

  • EBC YellowStuff pads
  • Drilled and grooved rotors
  • Sony XAV media unit instead of TomTom it came with (for carplay/android auto) (no BOSE, TomTom comes without it AFAIK)
  • Fresh Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres
  • Exedy Stage 1 Organic Clutch

Recently, I also did some small jobs myself:

  • replaced seals on tail lights (check yours - mine were damaged and accumulated a lot of dirt, which led to some water overflowing into the boot under heavy rain)

  • disassembled and reassembled the roof latch: adjusted the tension, added some extra padding, and some double-sided tape to plastic parts - now it’s so quiet. It’s a very easy job, and if you have not done it - do it!

Sorry for the photo with the roof up, but I was driving under direct sunlight for a few hours that day and wanted some shade and AC.

Why I joined:

  • I want to attend some local meetups/events, chat in person with other owners, see what they’ve done to the cars etc. My dream is to get into some road rally/long drive even across the country - I’ve seen people doing it across highlands in old Porche’s - so why not MX-5?
  • To be honest, I also need to renew my insurance soon and wanted to see if club membership would help with quotes from specialist insurers. Especially because I’m planning to add BBR 185 to the car

Welcome to the club, regarding your dreams just do it. Done, treasure hunts, trackdays, autosolo’s, sprints, hillclimbs and any number of tours across the country and into Europe in my older OEM, aside from the exhaust, NBFL over the last 8 years. Wishing you many smiles per mile.

Welcome - i’m the area co-ordinator for Central Scotland.
Keep an eye out for our organised monthly drives - may be a good, long one coming up to the North.
I also did the NC500 in my NA last September - recommended. Grest roads for a 5.
Hope to see you on a run soon.
Steve
