New member ( Scotland )

First post on the site, so Happy New Year to all the regulars.

About six weeks ago I bought my first MX5, a Mk2.5 1.8 Sport in silver complete with hardtop.        The car is in good condition apart from some bubbling on the rear arches.      With the Sport it’s got the six speed box, heated leather seats, strut brace and also has air conditioning.

Mileage is 45k, full years MOT, partial service history and cost me £1650, which I think was a pretty decent price.

The car is currently on a SORN as I don’t intend putting it on the road until March.        Jobs to be done, apart from the arches, are timing belt, oil change and plug change.

I’m looking forward to learning a lot more about MX5’s from the experienced posters on this  site.

Hi and welcome, where in Scotland are you?. Enjoy your 5

greetings, welcome to the clan. have fun fixing the 5.

Hello and welcome Cool

Hi and welcome.

Thanks for the welcome.

I’m originally from Dundee, but have stayed just south of East Kilbride for many years.

My current daily car is a BMW E46 M3, hence the reason the MX5 is on a SORN until March.    That’ll give me plenty of time to get arches sorted and the servicing carried out.

Even though the MX5 is parked up, I’ve already fitted LED foot well lights, LED boot/tail lights and changed the air filter.

welcome and enjoy,  i have bought my first mark two RS roadster, with all the bits 55,000 miles.Always had mark 1,s.

Would just say no matter how fab it looks on the outside get the Chassis rails checked for rot, its rife on the mark 2 and 2.5, look under engine tray under neath, and or turn wheels to full lock and look up , and tap the whole area. look on this web site at the chassis rail , parts section for photos

Then logon to http://www.mx5scotland.co.uk and get yourself out for some runs with the Central Scotland section.

You will be made welcome.

Thanks for the information about the front chassis legs.

I was aware that they can be an issue on certain models, and it’s something I will definitely be getting looked at when the rear arches are being sorted.

I will definitely keep my eye on the Central Scotland trips after I put my MX5 on the road in March.

Must say this is a friendly site.         Makes a change from some of the petty arguments on the M3 forum.
