Hi, nothing to do with MX-5 this time but curious about general thoughts concerning the purchase of a “management” motorbike…
The bike i set my mind on is a Triumph Trident 660 , it retails in Spain at 8.600 eur, actual promotion is 8.000 eur (600 less) but there’s a dealer selling a “management” bike for 7.000 eur it is also brand new (all are model year 2025) and it has 1.300 kms but my fear is; being a management bike what does that mean? Is it used as a test/demo bike (meaning abuse and not respecting warm-up period) ? And if yes to all, should i walk away and mis that good deal ?
I don’t know anything about bikes but worked in motor trade for a long time. Any performance cars we had as demonstrators (golf r bmw m3,m4,m5 etc) were generally given out to customers on their own to try plus used as rewards for high performing staff on their weekends off. Speaking from experience using them they were ‘enjoyed’ with no concern for running in etc. I suppose my answer would be it depends if the saving is worth it to you not knowing who or how the used one has been riden. In car terms 1k as saving wouldn’t be worth it but I guess it’s a fair %saving.
Tanks for your input! If i follow this thinking pattern (which is probably the same in the bike-world) i might feel a bit more assured as the Trident is not a performance bike, it’s more considered as a beginners bike and therefore as you say those threats for employees will probably not refer to the Trident . But the risk of abuse/ non respect (during test drives/demo’s…)is always there and during the break in period it might cause inevitable (long term) damage…we will never know but on the other hand as you say 1000 eur savings on a 8.000 eur price (8.600 without the promo) is nice. IF by any chance the bike would have been subject to abuse etc…i would think that those 1000 eur savings might solve the long term damage that might have occured during that break-in/demo/test period.
You never know how any used vehicle has been driven whether its been driven by one person or several, the only way to be sure is to buy new.
Agreed. I would however say it’s a fair assumption that a vehicle with 1300 km on would have been better looked after by one private owner that bought it new and sold it (for whatever reason) than a management/company/demonstrator vehicle used by multiple people.
Thx ;Tough decision, i found another one inthe Almeria dealer…they ask 7500 eur and advert it as a 2025 model (o kms) but…if i see the pics i believe its a 2024. If 2025 i will take it. reason why i realy want the 2025 is that it received many interesting updates…
I keep my “company vehicles” for about 6 months, they are then sold as “management vehicles” but I always treat my cars as if they’re my own. I think that there is no way to determine the history of a management vehicle in the same way as there is no way to determine the history of a private vehicle sale apart from viewing it.
Thx, another option could be; buy it and keep it for 3 years and then resell it; will sell for a nice price as the purchase price is already nice (1.600 eur less), beside that it would have 1 year factory warranty left.
