New ND 2025, to mod or not to mod…

Really happy with my new Homura grade MX-5. But I find myself considering an exhaust upgrade, not loud! but just that bit more… looks and sound?

Do drivers prefer to keep there cars stock, do you loose something when you alter exhaust, intake and so on.

Thoughts?

A replacement box can change the audio signature depending on your preference.

TBH you’ll not achieve much at the intake side without serious surgery and you’ll probably want to wait until after the warranty period for that.

Thank you, I am curious to how, say an exhaust upgrade can effect the integrity of the car in regards to warranty when I take my Homura for its first service?

A back box change will have no effect on warranty, if you go further such as changing header, mid pipe etc I can’t say.

There is a dealer option replacement back box option, though IIRC it involves cutting the pipe and is expensive. There are a number of options that will just bolt on.

Thank you again for the advice. Bolt on would satisfy me, so I will look at options that offer looks and tone improvement.

Open to suggestions from anyone who has made this change and any gains achieved in doing so?

BBR Supersport rear silencer add a nice sports car sound.

Will look, into this option, many thanks

Just don’t get caught by not telling your insurance. A friend was quoted higher insurance just because his car was modified with stripes on the paintwork…

Go figure…

Must say I did not even consider this!

I have cobalt back box and it sounds nice. Especially once it’s bedded in and sooted up a little

I change my exhaust back box on my new MX-5 on the driveway the day I brought it home from the showroom :face_with_peeking_eye:.

Logic was for the sound only, I already had the exhaust from my previous MX-5. I have kept the original in the loft. If the car ever gets traded in, (which is very unlikely), the original exhaust back box can be fitted back on the car.

When I did trade in my last MX-5 the dealer gave me a better trade in price because the car was was “stock”.

Lesson there, keep the original back box, and tell your insurance company about the “modification”.

There was no additional cost to me at the time, but at least they knew about it :+1:

Thank you for the pointers

Cheers

As a general rule of thumb no matter what the manufacturer or model it is best to write off the cost of mods when it comes to selling the car on, very few mods add value to a vehicle in the resale market, though, as I am sure we are about to find out below, there are few exceptions, but mostly the resale market just wants OEM.
