Hello!!
I purchased my first ever Mazda MX5 on Monday and am already in love with it and have caught the bug!
The one I have got is a Mk1 1.8 registered in 1994.
The car runs really well and all the lights, electrics etc. all work perfectly.
Only a few things that I’ll need to do:
- Unfortunately the last owner hit a fence so the car needs a new driver’s wing and front bumper.
-The clutch fluid is black as night so need to change that (and no doubt the slave cylinder soon after)
- Might change the cloth seats to leather ones.
-Cam belt (I think) makes a rather loud squeaking noise when the car is first turned on so needs adjusting / checking.
All in all though it’s a really lovely car and I can’t wait to get into the repairs over summer!! Too good to really be a project car but just a few bits to iron out.
Is anyone at Silverstone Classic this year in July??
Anyway, nice to join the Mazda world!!!
Hopefully see some of you around.

Hello Charlotte, welcome to the forum.
greetings Charlotte, welcome to the clan
suggest you do the mechanical bits before seats, it’s a safer bet then.
while you are repairing the wing etc. do a cam belt change unless it can be proved to have been changed recently. the belt is good for 50,000 miles +.
lots of folk from here are going to Silverstone; http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_postst70343p2_The-Silverstone-Classic-25th---27th-July.aspx?=

Hello and welcome.
If you join the owners club it looks like you will be in our area.
Do you have some one to look at your 5. Or are you doing it all yourself
Thanks guys!
I think I am coming to Sivlerstone on the Friday so can maybe take part / watch the lap!! BUT I might be going on my own… so if you see me wandering around looking lost - please come and say hello!!
I am planning on doing most of the work myself although I am fairly new to it so may need help at some point.
I’m in Hereford town centre pretty much! nice to know there are people fairly local.
Thanks! I am going on the Friday I think but I may be going on my own so if you see me wandering around looking lost - please come and say hi!!
