New Owner needs Service in East Anglia

Hello .I have just become a member of your club, having been a guest for a couple of months.
I have just obtained a 2,0 ND RF from a friend who sadly passed away.
It is a 2017 model with 17K on the clock and I am finding it much more fun that I imagined at my age, heading rapidly to 80.
Going through the paperwork , I have come across the name Cleverley in Stradbroke as a possible service and MOT location. Do these cars need specialist attention, or can my local garage who service all my other cars, 1936 to 2012, do all that is necessary. A few years ago, my Morgan had to go to a specialist which paid off when I sold it. If the answer is yes can anyone comment on Cleverley.
Many thanks

You wont go wrong with Clevery Carsā€¦

Great guys there and know MX5ā€™s inside and outā€¦ :+1:t2:

Go to Michael Cleverley, bit remote for some folk - you can wait and watch or walk into the village to the tea room. Not sure if heā€™s lending a courtesy car in these COVID times. Totally recommend him.

Thanks, Surprisingly, I lived in that village 40 years ago. Never been back, so nice to go.

Clevery Carsā€¦ first class knowledge and service. I would not take my MX5 to anyone else.

Hi and welcome.

Canā€™t comment on Clevery, but from the rave reviews above I would trust them.

But your initial question-
ā€œDo they require a specialist?ā€
I would say ā€œNoā€.

Any garage can swap oil and filters which is the important thing to do regularly. So if I had a local garage I trusted, as it sounds like you do, I would be giving them the work. If you have any problems or ā€˜non typical service requirementsā€™ down the line, maybe then reach out to a specialist. Thinking about rust treatments, or other known faults people on here, or a specialist would know about, but your local garage would need to investigate from scratch.

Also from personal experience of just one Mazda garage, I would rather trust my local garage than a franchised Mazda dealer. Same applies to other makes, dealers seem to get too comfortable swapping in expensive new parts where an independent mechanic would advise on how long before something is needed, and not be tied to providing genuine parts when cheaper/better alternatives exist.

Hello McTrucky. Appreciated. Pretty much the experience I had with my Honda, need for new parts seemed to disappear when I moved from a franchised dealer to my local, and that was 10 years ago so not a case of missing things.

Our MK3 is serviced, MOTā€™d and generally looked after by Michael Cleverley.
Great service from an MX-5 Specialist and at reasonable prices, highly recommended.
Itā€™s around a 35 mile drive for us in Norwich, but we wouldnā€™t take it anywhere else
